Looking for a used repair manual for a Ym 187 or silimar with the 18hp diesel. I was brush hogging today and I just cant take the smoke/ oil coming out of the breather hose anymore. Better try to fix it now before I have more problems

You realize this is cause your rings are worn out and you will need to at minimum replace the rings. But some sort of rebuild is instore here.

Yea I know, Just keep pushing the little machine one day at a time. She's ready to quit. I was just looking for torque spec, tear down and install. On a positive note there are little or none at all little mosquitoes flying around with all the smoke...lol

Oh ok. Someone will post the specs. I know Winston posted the specs on a different model on the thread about a 1610 or whatever locking up.

Ldavid, I have the original service manual for the 186 I think is very similar to the 187, If needed I could scan and email a few pages, but it would take me a month to scan the whole manual. Just let me know exactly what pages, and when you will need them. I am on this site almost every day.

Removing and scanning the whole motor section, would just take to much of my time, as I have a bunch of xmas presents still to make here in the shop.

Thanks Pete. Looking for head bolt spec, rod bolt, oil pan , valve cover torque spec. Maybe since I have a birthday coming i should invest in a manual.

Nothing in the manual, on oil pan or valve cover, I think you are on your own there.

Ok pete I've finally got into the tear down. The only problem or really I just ran out of day light. But I'm trying to remove the injector pump and it seem like it being held by something. What's the trick? Dave

Ldavid, I just have the manual, and have not torn one down before. But will look and see what the manual has to say.

be careful! i think thats the governor rack, apparently they are very fragile. some springs and the like have to be removed before it will come out. PS i have never pulled one out either

Haven't removed one either but I believe the rack has to be slid all the way one way, not sure which way, to allow it to come out.

yes theres a trick; I read about this somewhere; google "yanmar injector pump removal"; It took days of fiddling (sorry) for the guy to get the trick in an engine overhaul; i recall it had something to do with the govenor mechanism / linkage; post it when you get the pump off; preferably with a couple of pics; the challenge will be to not rewin the camera with grease/diesel in the process .

Iv got a ym 180d 3 cyl 18 hp 1989 that Im looking for a service manual for too ... I have a manual shift; I think the 186 was a power shift; very similar otherwise; Im trouble shooting electrical issues at the moment and the owners manual is too general to pinpoint the problem.

Ok Guys its been months now I have finally got the motivation I need to continue on the tractor. I found the problem. The number 1 cylinder had a broken ring. So I ordered all the parts for a rebuild and should be up and running this next weekend. keep you posted.
