How to split wood, the easy way

I like the axe as I can see that helping but not so sure about the rubber bungy thing. Also as others have stated, this will not work on elm, etc. that is tough to split. For example, white birch would probably work as that is easy to split.

FYI I have the same Fiskars splitting maul, it works well. I either wait till elm etc is frozen solid to split it or use the hydraulic splitter. But, for straight kindling making etc this looks great.

Great idea for kindling -- the wood looked like cedar to me -- the technique would be perfect for making kindling form old rounds of softwood I have leftover from logging:thumbsup:

Just bought the Fiskars x25 today and split a bunch of Oak from this past spring...it a great job but of course not as easy as that piece in the video as I had very few straight grain pieces.

I got my X27 a couple months ago. Never got an x25 due to its short handle. That thing is amazing. I am splitting green Black Locust and most of it is 'one hit and it splits'.

You guys best not be steering me wrong! :D I ordered a X27 a couple of days ago from Amazon for $45.01.

I have a tractor splitter, but prefer to split by hand most of the time, I need the exercise anyway! ~~ grnspot

I was dubious myself until I did the first block.

I also use my splitter only for the tough stuff (knots, crotchs, twists). At my age (76) I need all the excercise I can get but
I will not pay money to be bored to death on a treadmill in a gymn.
