silver maple grown in swampy like area and when done in the middle of winter,freshly cut will split that easy. I should know after working at my fathers cutting wood.
The fiskars splitting axe he used and an old tire is what I use here, for those that have doubts...google them, thousands of reviews will make you a believer too...better yet, try one.
I know that won't work on Elm or Hickory, probably not oak either. Way to stringy to split like that. Although I did like the idea of wrapping the firewood to keep it together....:thumbsup:
That's what I was thinking maybe using a cable with a piece of bungee.... Most of my stuff don't like to split even if I go the whole way with the splitter.... It might be more of a hassle....
