This is our old rig. We lived with crappy braking for 5 years until we bypassed the factory harness. After that, the trailer would lock its wheels loaded, and would pull as hard hard on the Ford as we wanted. I had this trailer push me through an intersection once in the rain before it was fixed, and that was not a good feeling. Loaded trailer was 24,500 lbs.

We now have a 4400 series IH with a 20 ton pintle and antilock airbrakes all around. It stops like a corvette.

Getting offtopic, but what is the machine on the trailer intended to do?

It's a thumper tractor for doing seismic surveys. It's a baby compared to what the oil industry uses, so a little unique. We use it for near surface geophysical mapping.
