I am with you. I had my Hay Wagon so messed up I unhitched it from the tractor and hooked a chain to the rear axle to pull it in place while my buddy steered the tongue.

Chris

I'd imagine if a guy did it often enough he could learn to back a hay wagon. I just don't do it hardly ever, and I have no desire to learn.

I'm always up for a friendly wager Dargo.

I'll bet you $3,000 I can see my gn ball while in the driver's seat of my truck.

A straight forward bet that can easily be verified by any unbiased observer. You appear to be in Southern Indiana. I'm in NW Missouri. I'll drive to you.

I'll have $3,000 cash, you do the same. We'll hand it to the observer to hold until verification.

We might even be able to find a member on this site to serve as the observer.

How about it Dargo??? We can settle this very easily. I'm currently on the road but will be home Saturday afternoon. I could be at your location on Sunday. We can set this up right now. I await your response.

Sorry, but based on your disposition, I view nothing "friendly" with you. My assumption would be that you show up with a $200 POS with the back of the cab missing. How about you go test drive a nice crew cab pickup from a dealership and film your special X-ray vision on how you are going to see through everything and into the bed of the pickup?

Can't speak for you, but my pickup has a very comfortable crew cab, I have a toolbox in the bed of my truck as well as a 100 gallon transfer fuel tank. Maybe you've never seen such a setup, but they are extremely common these days. It's strange that you're the only person who can actually look directly at the GN ball in this situation. Why only bet $3000? Let's make it worth my time, let's put it at, say, $200k? Also, when working and towing equipment, I would not consider giving up the bed of my pickup; which a GN trailer forces you to do.

We await your video.

That's sort of like backing a double trailer. I've heard some guys can back up such a rig, but I can't. I've backed equipment and boat trailers in all sorts of places for decades, but have never tried to back a piggyback/double trailer of any sort. I'm sort of like you, I have no desire to learn even if it can be done.

With the current level of pi$$ing contest's, they may be a thing of the past ;)

Yeah. Who knew that choice of trailer hitch would be such an emotionally charged issue? I still think there's some good information and fun discussion going on in between the stomping and snorting.

Kind of like backing a dolly scraper or double hay rakes on a splitter.

I'll certainly agree with you. Still, I'm quite aware you still have plenty of gumption and vinegar left if someone verbally slaps you after you go out of your way to be polite to them. Since decades of experience has shown me that loading a pintle hitch trailer is easier than loading a GN trailer, I said verbatum "I respectfully disagree" with Overloaded and he got his panties in a bunch, forgot about any civility and responded, and I quote, "But then maybe that's an example of your arrogance."

You're darn near to the same part of the country as I am, and we both know that is a rather rude response. Feel free to go back and verify that is exactly how the exchange went. When a man is told that his opinion is respected but you have a different opinion and he goes and, metaphorically slaps your hat off, any respect for that person hit the ground with said hat. I've had my fun, and he's clearly not up to sparring material, so I've no further interest in the subject.

BTW, just to give you a laugh at my luck, and I know you'll understand the predicament perfectly well, a relative was selling their house that sits on a 4 lane country road and asked me to bush hog the median in front of their house so it would look nicer. I asked if it was cleared of debris and he promised me that he just walked it himself. Anyway, I wrapped up a retread under my MX8 so tight that it made the slip clutch smoke before I could shut it down. I'm now convinced there is no easy way to get one of those out. The relative? He said it's too hot to help any. LOL

My late ex-FIL pulled grain hoppers for a local farmer. He could put tandem trailers just about anywhere he wanted it seemed. I can think it through, and probably get there eventually, but it would be quicker for me to unhook. It's just physics.

And coordination.

And practice.

See,,, you continue to degrade me for no apparent reason. I gave you a chance to man up and prove your point but you declined. My integrity is intact and I certainly am not accusing you of being anything less than you are. My panties aren't in a bunch. You repeatedly insulted my abilities and then my honesty and integrity. I'm wanting to make my case. Put up or shut up Dargo.

You choose whomever you want from this site to be the judge. Send them to my house with a camera. They can video me seeing my gn ball from the drivers seat. I'll back to my trailer a dozen times if you choose. Then we'll let everyone on this thread judge whom is correct based on the video and the witness of your choosing's testimony.

Also if you want to go for $200K, I'm in. To speed up the process of getting a witness how about each of us donate $2K to that person to cover their costs. I'm sure there are several participants in this discussion that will come to Missouri for $4K.

Your declaration that I would cheat in this matter is another insult that's totally unnecessary. I've not insulted you in any way. I've simply stated your level of arrogance when you say you know more about my situation than I do.

So let's get this going. The bet is that I can see my gn ball by looking thru the back window of my truck from the driver's seat while backing to my trailer. We can establish a panel of participants here to hold the assets. I've got a clear title to a $150K property and $165K of 401K money that I'll put on the table. How soon can you get your $200K verified?? I'd like to do this in the next couple weeks before you change your mind. :)

I totally agree. Good thread.

No stomping and snorting here, just calling what's obviously a bluff. :)

Hey Dargo, since I already know you aren't going to go thru with any significant bet and won't ever agree on any circumstances involving proving this situation, let's settle it this way.

The bet is $100. The final judge is "Iplayfarmer". After all it is his thread we have hijacked. If he says it can be done you mail me $100. If he says it can't be done I'll mail you $100.

No cheating from the grandstands now. I'll rely on everyone's integrity.

Here's the debate. "I can see my gn ball from the driver's seat of my truck while backing to my gn trailer without a camera or any other additional equipment or assistance".

You've repeatedly said that's a lie and that I have "special" vision and that I'm "wrong" and that my "panties are in a bunch" and several other very nasty statements.

We can settle this today or tomorrow at the latest. I'm sure Iplayfarmer will be on here within a few hours just as you will be.

How about it Dargo??? Here's an opportunity for you to prove that I'm "wrong" without leaving your easy chair.

If on the other hand you want to stay with the $200K bet I'm all over that too. Just man up and settle this. :licking:

For what it's worth; I can see mine from the drivers seat as well. I have to raise up a bit in the seat, but still easily reach the brake & gas pedals.
4wd Dodge 3/4 ton crew cab.
Not that I can hit it on the first try, my depth perception ain't worth a flip anymore.

As for the OP, I agree that with a BP there's a little more weight capacity in the bed of the truck than with the GN. I've always had BP's until about five years ago, now that I have the GN; I might never go back. For the most part, it's personal preference.

Happy trailering.

Awwww now there goes that integrity thing!!!! You guys are gonna give up the secret aren't ya!!! ;);););)

Dargo thinks because he can't do something no one can. Now he knows he's screwed up and "talked" himself into a corner and he just isn't man enough to admit he's wrong. He'd rather attack my character of which he knows nothing about. But hey, maybe I'm wrong. Maybe in the end he will man up. I'm not counting on the $200K though. Dang it.

I like my GN trailer too. I'm certainly not gonna sell it because someone on here doesn't like them. Each type has it's place. But I'd never say one type is junk and the other type is the only way to go. As you said, personal preference. :)

I have a 1-ton Dodge dually crew cab, I cant see mind, but I have a low profile tool box, Maybe if the tool box wasnt in the way I might be able to see it, I have been fairly good at backing to my GN so far and getting better even though I cant see the ball, like someone else said in this thread I can lower the trailer down some and can move the gooseneck hitch around some until it goes over the ball, I am sure alot of people has done this, and yes it heavy and hard to move some goosenecks like that, but then again I am not a puss either.

I hear X-ray vision helps. The GN trailers I had generally had about 1000 to 1500 pounds of tongue weight empty. No human on earth can pick that up and move it around. FWIW, even without being able to see the ball, I could hit it almost 100% of the time anyway. I think you are describing what I did; once the drop cleared the tailgate, I lowered the GN an inch or two so it would 'bump' when it contacted the ball. Even with the trailers I had I could push them up the slight bit onto the ball enough to have them slide over once I lowered the GN more. Basically with the curve of the top of the ball, the GN lowers the truck the half inch or inch to make this happen.

Still, my first point in this thread was that bumper pull pintle hitch trailers work far better in my situations where I have to make a lot of sharp turns without the ability to swing really wide and also have the added benefit of being able to casually load the trailer in about 2 or 3 minutes. The thread only got off track after I said I "respectfully disagreed" with Overloaded and he lost his cool and became rude. I don't do rude in person, so I'm certainly not going to continue to do what amounts to trying to debate with my 3 year old nephew. Happy trails....trailoring.

Didnt say anything about picking it up, once there is some weight on the ball I can jar the neck enough to make it line up and start going over the ball. If there is anyone that can pick up a front of a gooseneck, more power to you "sir".

See Dargo, here you are still being insulting. You know what my Log On here is and the "Overloaded" thing is just another example of your arrogance.

Lastly, you can't man up can you..... I thought about this while on the road this morning. It's pretty sad actually. Your arrogance totally overrides all logic and intelligence in this matter. Because I pointed out your arrogance it inflamed you and now all you can do is insult me. I've gave you several chances to resolve this matter and you've ignored them all and threw out more insults.

My Dad always said "wrestle with a pig and you get muddy". Before you freak out and say I called you a pig stop and think about that statement. I wrestled with the pig in this case. I let your arrogance drag me into a discussion with you about this. Kinda like arguing with a two year old. No one wins and the adult ends up feeling childish. Well Dargo, that's where I'm at, feeling childish for discussing this at your level. My last offer to you about using Iplayfarmer as a judge was also childish. He had already stated in this thread that he could see his gn ball in a similar truck as mine. You were just sooooo worked up thru your arrogance that you never comprehended what he said. So when I offered to let him judge I already knew you were going to lose. I took advantage of your mental state and that was wrong. I'm sorry for anything I've said to you that offended you. I'm also sorry for taking advantage of your weakness and exploiting it. The competitive side of me kicked in fueled by your continuing insults. That's what my Dad's parable was describing. Now I just feel muddy.

I also want to apologize to any readers that were distracted by this discussion. And especially I want to apologize to Iplayfarmer for getting in the middle of what is a very good thread full of valuable information.

Here's the philosophy that I live by. Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity, Personal Courage.

I disrespected you by taking advantage of your weakness.

I dishonored myself by intentionally continuing onesided dialogue with you when I clearly had the upper hand.

I did not display Personal Courage by letting this go so long.

Again Dargo, I'm sorry for treating you in this manner.

You simply are disrespectful and rude. Your weakness is that you are not subject to logic nor reasoning. I assure you that you would not like me in person. I have no regard for anything you say since you've proven to me that your opinion is of no value. If someone cannot post something worth my time to read, why bother. You need to man up and grow up. Buh-by pal.

If you read my post again, that is what I described. Once a GN it touching the ball, I can shove it over enough to drop on the ball. If someone can pickup a GN trailer, I would indeed call them 'sir'.

I expected no more than this from you Dargo. You continue to insult me and try to argue your point which anyone reading knows you have already lost. I thought maybe I was being a little hard on you. Or maybe I had misjudged you. But no, you proved I'm right on target. You also proved what I already described, that you can't stop for a second and think there's the slightest possibility that you might be wrong.

As for manning up, I've already done that, several times in this dialogue. I'm standing in a lonely position simply talking to myself in that regard.

Again I apologize for any disrespect I have shown you and for taking advantage of your obvious weakness.
