I just went and ordered a new 2520 with FEL, bucket teeth, drive over MMM, 57" Frontier tiller, i-match, 3pt receiver, rim guard in rear tires, rear tire chains, also had them put hooks on bucket and one on top of my 3pt receiver. I hope I didn't miss anything? I have been looking/lurking here for a while and learning along the way!

Congrats Tom - when does it all arrive? Make sure you post us some pics

I told them not till I get back from my Turkey hunting trip in Nebraska, so it will be 10-12 days he said. Tractor is already there.... I did get the 61" bucket also. Can anyone tell me if you get the independant mower lift or is that something you have to specail order?

The independent lift is extra and usually runs around $700

What is the advantage vs disadvantages of it?

what are the advantages vs disadvantages of the independent mower lift? anyone....???

"what are the advantages vs disadvantages of the independent mower lift? anyone....??? "

I guess the theoretical advantage is that you can raise/lower the mower without raising/lowering the three-point hitch. However, because the independent lift comes off the loader circuit, it will leak down, which means you have to keep adjusting the height of the mower (unless you find some way to lock it in place, such as with the JD mower lockup kit). Whereas, if you just have the regular lift off the three-point, it won't leak down.

The other downside is that it is more stuff to be removed in order to install the backhoe. For me, the independent lift option was not something I needed or wanted. Might work for you though.

I don't think I would have anything on the 3 pt while mowing anyway so it does not seem like it would benefit me in any way. I guess if you were carrying something on the back then it could be an issue.....

Hi Tom.....congrats on your new tractor. I also just bought a new 2520 last fall, and was somewhat confused about the independent lift vs mechanical lift deal. One salesman, (at a dealership where I didn't end up buying) was very adamant that the independent lift was the only way to go. He didn't even ask what I wanted to do with the tractor, just insisted that I needed it. Probably because it would have resulted in it being a higher dollar sale.

Glad I didn't listen to him. Unless you are going to really need, or see the need down the road, to have the ability operate the 3pth totally independent from the mower lifting action, you don't need it.

If you do have the independent lift, and want to have full control of your loader and deck at the same time, you have to buy the add on remote SCV outlet which gives you another 2 hydraulic outlets so you can keep all the loader lines and lift cylinder all connected. In addition you will need to buy the SCV control valve, so you can switch the fluid flow between the loader ports and the deck cylinder. If you don't go this route, you will have to manually switch out 2 of the lines from the loader circuit to operate the mower lift, and back again when you want full control of the loader again.

As runner has said, it seems that the independent lift will leak down, which to me would seem to be a real PITA especially after paying a good buck for it.

One thing you should consider though is that when your mower is off, and you are using another implement, the mowers lift arms will also go up and down with the 3pth. The only time at the moment when my deck is off, I have my front blade and ballast box on the rear. In order to keep the deck lift arms up, I bought the JD deck lockup kit. The kit is a little pricey (in my case in Canada it was $175) considering what it is, just a couple of brackets and adjustable chains, but it works. Some guys just use bungee cords or big zip ties, to do the job, but I'm happy with the JD kit despite the cost.

I know there are some cases where one would want independent control of the 3PTH and the mower deck, (like if you want to run your rear tiller and still keep the deck on) but in most cases I would expect if I had an implement on the 3pth, I would take the mower deck offl. The drive over decks go on and off in a couple of minutes. Then I can just hook up the lockup kit chains and the mower deck arms are out of the way, and I have full control of the 3PTH.

Thanks! I don't think I would have the FEL on while cutting anyway, it will be hard enough to navigate my yard without it, but I'm sure I will get used to it in time. It sure don't seem like I would benifit in any way from that independent lift! Trying to decide now if I want to get an offset, tilting rear blade before the transaction is done.... I will see what kind of price he can work out!

Welcome to the 2520 club!!!! Another thought, instead of taking the loader off all the time, just drop the bucket off instead. Also, are you getting the $2500 discount deal?

Thank you! And yes I am getting the $2500 off incentive!! I guess I could just drop the bucket and maybe that would protect the tractor if my wife is driving!! LOL I hope she don't read this!! Do any of you have a john deere or frontier rear blade?

I have a 2520 with a 200CX, 62D, independent lift, and a diverter valve. I know that you are already aware of some of what I'm about to say, but I'll say it all for completeness.

The independent lift uncouples the MMM lift from the 3PH and allows you to use the curl circuit of the SCV to hydraulically raise and lower the MMM. The independent lift has it's own mechanical height adjustment that limits the downward travel of the lift mechanism. See the attached photo that shows what this adjuster control looks like. In addition to controlling the mowing height, it also is used to lock the deck, or lift mechanism, in the fully up position.

Normally, when switching to use the FEL, you would lock the deck all the way up and then disconnect the hydraulic lines to the lift cylinder and connect the curl circuit for the FEL. The diverter valve allows you to have both the FEL and independent lift connected at all times, and then select between the bucket curl or the lift cylinder using a push/pull knob to switch the diverter valve from the operator seat.

Yes, the lift cylinder will leak down after you raise it hydraulically, but it's not really a problem. The hydraulically controlled part of the lift mechanism was intended to allow you to temporarily lift the deck to avoid obstacles, not as a method of adjusting the mowing height or parking the deck in the up position. The height adjuster of the independent lift allows for both mowing height control and the ability to lock the lift mechanism in the raised position, all from the tractor seat.

while everything is new you may consider a paste battery (optima). I really like my 2520 but the battery juice will leak if you go over rough stuff and corrode the front compartment. I had previously a 790 which did the same thing. If your cutting greens at the golf course like a lot of these guys it won't matter but property like mine will .

Do you know the demensions of the battery? I just took two MK deep (gel) cycles out of a wheelchair that are in good working order. One of them might work?? You are right though on my property it will be getting bounced around for sure! Thanks for the advice!!!

Thanks Greg!!! I can't belive its finalliy happening...... You might have to come up and give me some pointers!!!! You got anything to add to my post? I know Robert at Vernon Dell probably got sick of hearing from me!

Do any of you have a john deere or frontier rear blade?

I have the Frontier RB1072. IMO, perfect size for the 2520.. Lot of times, when using it, I remove the tilt pin so the blade floats side to side. Doesnt gouge the ground as bad. Now this is usually when I push snow and dragging rocks back onto the drive from the yard due to someone moving the gravel driveway into the yard during snow removal. Im not gonna name any names here....

I don't think so Tom,everyone has you covered.
Only things I can think of,is make sure it has the new style lower 3pt arms.
I'm sure it will though.
IMO,I would have them add a block heater. Mine only added around 70.00.
Oh man what an unbelieveable difference in cold weather starting.

I know Robert at Vernon Dell probably got sick of hearing from me!
Funny you should say that. I called him every other day about something.
Do you know what they charged you for the tooth bar?

I have a Frontier RB2060. I actually like the 60" width because it more closely matches the width of the tractor and is easier to judge where the edges are. I mostly run it with the blade facing backward to grade my gravel driveway and the private road we live on.
