Just wondering if anyone uses the salt free liquid dosing softeners. These are not the rap a wire around pipe pieces of ____. Here is a site that talks some about them.

I know we have had some big threads on softeners just wondering what might be out there that doesn't work off salt???

I'd have to know more about the "Complexing Agent " before I would try that product.

Sounds interesting, I too would want to know more about the complexing agent. We have really good tasting well water and I would not want something to alter that taste.

Post over at Terrylove.com. Bunch of plumbers over there.

Seems to not actually soften water (ie: remove minerals)... just makes the water behave as if it was softened. I understand that the bond between the dosing material and the minerals is broken when heated therefore you'd have no benefits for your water tank or other hot water dispensers.

This I did not know, from what they claim it would help water tanks etc... still trying to find some answers. It is new to the market and IMO at $400+ I'm not sure if I want to be a guinea pig especially not with out more info.

1. I'd suggest asking for an MSDS sheet on the complexing agent and determining if it is safe. I'm fairly certain they have to provide one if asked.

2. What happens if too much complexing agent is injected? How would it be detected?

3. How will you know that it is working correctly and conditioning as it should?

When I had my water softener and neutralizer installed, I asked for follow up tests at 1 week and 6 months to verify it was working as they said it would. I had it in writing that they would take it back with a full refund if it did not perform as promised. Got this in writing (and signed by company represented) and paid with credit card to ad a layer of protection.

Thats pretty much the gist i got of it when reading over at Love's. I understand its a pretty controversial subject, at least over there.
