I need a quick hitch for my John Deere 4005 and I noticed Harbor Freight has a 26 1/2" wide and a 27 1/2" wide model. Which is the proper size to get ? Thanks !

Measure the distance between the pins on your implements and see which would be the best fit. You'll want some clearance between the inner surface of the QH and the implement to prevent binding.

BTW, it's possible the larger QH is for a category 2 3PH. I don't know the typical spacing on a Cat 2, so that is just a guess.

They both say category 1.

They both say category 1.

Then I suggest you get the one that best fits your implements with the least modification.

Item #98487 is cat II
#97214 is cat I
On the HF webpage there are clickable tabs to view a pdf of the product manual.

Then somebody's got something wrong. Full Cat 2 pin spacing is 32". What I think you're lookin' at is a Cat 1/2. Previous advice is germane, measure the distance between your implement lift pins. Otherwise the Cat 1/2 connects to Cat 1 lower lift arms, but has hooks big enough to pick up 2 lift pins.

I personally got so frustrated with my HF QH, that I replaced it with Pat's Easy Change hitch system. Never looked back.

The 26 1/2 is the first one they offered it was usually a little too narrow for the implements. People were bending and or cutting them to make it wider like the newer model that is 27 1/2. The 27 1/2 is the one I bought, it is a cat 1 but the spacing makes it fit more implements. Measure your implements as Roy said it makes all the difference.

Ditto on the 27 1/2" size.
You can read a whole bunch of posts on the issue.
Also you'll possibly find that your implement pins are too small in diameter so you'll need to go to TSC and get bushings - cheapest way to work around this issues.
Another issue might be the hook for the top connection.
It fit some of my implements but not all.
I went to TSC and ordered the adapter they have for their quick hitch and now I use it for all the implements.

I went with the 27.5" between the pins as this goes along with the
ASAE category 1 dimensions.
