What do you do when some company keeps sending the same e-mails over and over? There are several companies with whom I've done business in the past which send e-mails almost every day, but it's usually only one or two a day that they send and I just delete them. However, CreditReport.com, with whom I've never had any dealings of any kind, is sending the same e-mail over and over. I think they sent it 22 times yesterday and 14 so far today. They show to come from CreditReport@internationalmarketsservice.com. What's the best way to stop something like that?

What is your e-mail program, you'll be able to apply a filter to either just delete the e-mail (you'll never see them again) or my favorite thing to do is to forward a copy of their e-mail back to the company, then have the email program delete it. So it takes up their time to look at it. Just let us know how you look at your e-mail...

Who is your email provider? Do you use webmail or a mail client (such as Outlook or Thunderbird)? Are you marking these emails as spam?
I use gmail webmail and it catches most (99%) of the spam emails that I get.
I can also setup filters that will catch emails that I dont want to see and dump them to someplace (like spam or trash).

Have you every opened any of them to see if they have an "unsubscribe" link? All of the corporate ones I've ever received have this option. I'm lucky if I get one a week.

Yes, I've heard that "unsubscribe" option just verifies your e-mail address for them, but in this case, I actually did follow that link to "unsubscribe" but so far to no avail.

I use Outlook Express and my Norton Internet Security labels them a being spam, but some are sent to the Junk Mail folder and some just to my Inbox. Since the e-mails are the same, I'm not sure why they don't all go the same route.

I'd forgotten about being able to apply a filter. So I just did that but if I understand it right, it only sends them to the Junk Mail folder instead of completely blocking them. So we'll see.

Thanks for the replies.

I do the same as KL7N. All that I have seen have the unsubscribe option in small print at the bottom. It works for me. The only problem is that you get rid of one there is always another to take it's place.

Be careful with that link. The shady spammers out there will keep sending you spam as your address is now "confirmed" as working.

Is it possible to just "Block Sender" ?:)

That's what I've done, but I'm still getting them. So far, at least, they're now going to the Junk E-mail folder. And of course, I still have to delete from there, and then from the Deleted Items folder.

Bird, that's exactly how mine is setup. A few years ago I was getting many spam e-mails every day. Called my internet provider and what they did was reroute my e-mails through my alternate e-mail address, then it comes to my old present address. This alternate e-mail address has a much better filter on it. Now I may average 1 spam e-mail per day vs. 1 -2 dozen a day. Didn't want to give up my old present e-mail address I have had for about 20 years, even though the company has been bought/sold about 5 times.

Very true, but if an email doesn't bounce back at them, it's confirmed at that point anyway. ...

Not quite true...the mail system can be configured to accept any prefix to the @domain address, and not let the sender know that the mailbox is invalid. I worked at a place that did just that. I was told that it was to catch mispelling of the brokers names, but I don't know of anyone that reviewed the catch all mailbox for misspelled addresses. As a side effect spammers couldn't narrow down what was valid addresses on our domain because our mail system accepted all mail.

I don't have any "alternate" e-mail address. I know lots of folks have several, but I've only got one. And in the last hour or so I've gotten 2 more of those same spam e-mails but they did go to the Junk E-mail folder.

Back in the summer I started getting 100+ spam emails a day. That was very unusual as I normally only get 2 or 3 a day. I called my Internet service provider where I have may emaill account and somehow my filter had got turned off at the main office 25 miles away. They turned it back on and they stopped coming instantly. I am glad they are filtering those spam emails for me. Ken Sweet

Ken, instead of calling on this, I sent my ISP an e-mail question about it yesterday, since it isn't really urgent. They say they try to respond within 3 business days.

Before I called my ISP, I tried most all that has been suggested with little success. I do check spam that the ISP catches about 2 times per week just to make sure a valid email does not get thrown away. I will catch 1 or 2 good ones per week. I validate them and then they come on in to my account. Hope you get the problem resolved. Ken Sweet

My alternate e-mail address was provided free of charge by my internet provider. If you ask yours they may provide one if needed. I have never used mine to receive or send e-mails but have had the second one for years. Guess it was their way of providing a better filter system for my old e-mail address. :)

And would the spammer really care? What does it cost him to continue sending to one of those addresses?

True, but think of it this way....you CAN'T possibly cover all possible e-mail addresses with SPAM. Wouldn't it make sense for a spammer to target known good addresses? If the server never confirms nor denies the existence of any e-mail address, it makes it that much more difficult to find those "valuable" addresses.

I don't know whether it was using the "unsubscribe" link, or changing to block the sender, or something else, but at least I haven't received any more of the same e-mails for CreditReport.com since yesterday.:D Thanks to everyone who responded with suggestions.

Check your junk e-mail folder, if its there, that is what worked. I have had pretty good success with the unsubscribe option, not perfect but pretty good.

Nope, not in the Junk E-mail folder either.
