I have a B2782A Front snowblower on a B3200. I am getting ready to mount it for the winter and want to grease it and oil the chain. My question is...does the cover have to come off of the chain to lubricate it and, if so, how do you get it off? I looked at the manual and it isn't totally clear to me.
Also, should the chain tension be checked? I assume the cover would need to be removed for that.

I don't know the "right" answer to your question, but you might consider using "tenacious" oil for lubing your chain. It is available at bike shops, and is a thick oil that clings to moving parts and resists water. A motorcycle guy might have an even better idea.

Good advice. I went to a motorcycle dealer and bought motorcycle chain lube. It clings to the chain. I use the little straw thingy that comes with it and lube my chain without removing the cover. I don't recall the recommended intervals between chain tensioning, but, yes the cover will have to be removed for that.

Any motorcycle chain lube will work which is available most anywhere.

Thanks to all. I will get some chain lube at the local bike shop.
Does anyone have any suggestions for easy ways to remove the chain cover for tension checking and adjustment?

Chain oil for chain saws are used in automatic or pump operated oiling systems. Not the best for a chain drive in a snow blower.

Motorcycle chain oil is designed to stay on the chain and applied occasionally, great for this application.

Apply after using the blower if you can. Warm chain accepts the spray better and allows the spray to penetrate the joints and rollers before the metals cool down. Not a absolute requirement, just a better time to do it.

there should be a place to put in new shear pins .thats where you adjust and lubricate

I've been using Lucas Oil Stabilizer with good results. The suggestion comes from a long time biker friend. He likes Lucas best and he's tried them all.
As for applying the lubricant,I place the PTO selection lever in rear only, allowing the mid PTO driveshaft to turn freely. If a helper is available,I have them slowly turn the blower fan while I apply the lube through the small opening to the left side of the blower-you can see a little of the chain. If no helper around,I remove the chain cover-one bolt on top and one bolt on the bottom. This allows more access tio the chain.About one fourth of the chain can be lubricated in this position.I then reach into the blower and turn the fan 1/4 turn at a time lubing as I go.Adjusting the chain doesn't need to be done very often.Good Luck!

Industrial wire rope lube also does a great job for blower chains. It is the black heavy stuff that is used on hoisting cables. The chain that turns the auger does not really turn as fast as a motorcycle drive chain.
