If you don't mind using tools other than Snap-on (or Mac/Matco), Lowes has a stupidly good deal on. KOBALT 40PC socket set - standard and deepwell, both SAE & Metric. Made in U. S. A. and carries their lifetime waranty(FWIW). Reg price is $59.98 - THERE IS NO "On SALE" sign in the tool section, but the register rings it up correctly - $19.98. The handle has a Snappy shape to it, but you can tell the internals are not Snap-On. Comes in a blue, hard-plastic case. Good to tossing in the truck.

Search online - key # is 199343, make sure your store has them in stock (or can order online). I bought 2 setsyesterday. Don't know when they are going off sale.

Sold out in my area. They also had a small 1/4" set for appx. $13. Picked up one of those to carry on my motorcycle. Still looking for the big set.

that's a nice cheap price for a set of sockets. made me remember my search for impacts.

over the last winter i put a new compressor and plumbed air in my shop, and i wanted a larger and more complete set of impacts. the tool truck stuff was out of the question. ends up at $15-$20 per socket, and i'm just not enough of a professional to warrant that. i did find these though, and i haven't found any company offering as complete a set as this:

Bottom-line pricing on Sunex Tools 2668 at ToolTopia.com

3/8" to 1-1/2" shallow and deep. they're as reasonable as pretty much any impact i have seen at around $3 a socket. i ended up buying the metric set too. they have a full warranty, but i haven't broken any yet, so i don't know what sort of hassle that might entail.

That is a great deal. It has never bothered me to buy craftsman, kobalt or other similar lifetime guaranteed tools. The best ratchet I ever bought was a swivel head from Big Lots, I use it almost exclusively and it's lasted for years. I'm going to Lowes first thing tomorrow and picking up a set for me and each of the boys. Thanks for the heads up!

Well, checked online availability first thing this morning and it showed 1 set available at the closest Lowes in Carbondale Il, about 8 miles from home...none left at any other store in S. Il, W. KY, W In. or SE MO. I beat a trail there and I got there as the doors opened but unfortunately, an old gal with a fresh charge on her Rascal mobility scooter beat me to the tool aisle. I'll be darned if their inventory wasn't spot on and there was only one left...so I knocked her right out of her Stride Rites just as she was reaching for it and started calmly making my way toward the register with tool set in hand.

Here's where it got a little weird. I noticed we weren't the only ones who were there for the last one on the shelf....an Outlaw biker gang, a group of Jehovah's Witnesses w/ a broken down bus and some local TBN'ers obviously vying for the last one were making their way toward me fast! I had to think quick and suddenly that old song Uneasy Rider started playing over the intercom and from there things were just a blur but the song tells the rest of the story. One of the bikers cornered me by the register and was eying my hard won 40 pc. socket set.....

Then he started sayin' somethin' about the way I was dressed but I didn't wait around to hear the rest
I was too busy movin' and hopin'
I didn't run outta luck"

And when I hit the ground I was makin' tracks
So I threw the gal at the register a twenty and
jumped in my truck and fired that mother up

Mario Andretti woulda sure been proud
of the way I was movin' when I passed that crowd
comin' out the door and headin' toward me in a trot

And I guess I shoulda gone ahead and run
but somehow I couldn't resist the fun
of chasin' them just once around the parkin' lot

Fact is stranger than fiction ;) ........Well, maybe not all fact. I did get what online inventory showed to be the last set in S. Il, W Ky, W In and SE MO and it rang up at $19.98. No comment on the lady with the Rascal

ON edit: I noticed that online it showed the price as $19.98 if purchased in store, if delivered it was $59.98. At the store it had a yellow tag that said it was reduced from $39.98 to $19.98.

I've heard good things about them. Another good tool company that is little known is Wright. Quality tools made in Ohio. I have mostly Snap-On, but I don't hesitate to buy the others. If you get US made tools and use them correctly they are hard to break. Proto and SK always seved me well too.

"kobalt"...worst tools I have ever used...even worse than the chinese junk at HF... IMHO...!

recently I needed some dies...all lowes had was that rotten kobalt crap...I refused to buy the junk and went to the local hardware store...

I snagged a set. I need them to carry in my camper. They should work fine...

I managed to get a set today, also noticed they had a three set (small, med, larger) of adjustable pliers and grove joint pliers (Channelock like pliers) for 9.98 each. Don't seem to bad for $3.33 a tool. Have to say if I were a professional wrench I would probably go with Snap On or Mac but at at least 10x the cost hard to justify.

I dont have a problem buying non brand name tools if the price is right. I have a set of import tools that I bought at least 30 years ago and it is still just about all original. I have replaced the rachet a couple of times with Craftsman but still I strip the gears on them also, but not so much as I got older though since I am not as strong as I used to be. I think I busted 1 or 2 of the sockets using a breaker bar with a cheater pipe but that was abuse to the highest degree so I couldnt complain with the quality. I dont think the new import stuff is nearly the quality of what I have. Crasftsman doesnt seem to warranty their stuff like they use to either as only some of their tools are still lifetime warranty. Maybe they know what they have better than us.

Thanks for the heads up on the deal.

I just ordered a set online, using " in store pickup". Now I don't have to worry if they are still in stock when I get to the store. My set will be sitting behind the counter, paid for, with my name on it.

Got mine today, it will live under the truck seat. Nice security just having it there, hope I never need it. Thanks for the heads up.

Don't forget if you are military active, reserve or retired, you get a 10% discount. Just tell the cashier before she starts the transaction and show your ID. Same thing at Home Depot. Not sure if it works online.
