I've been looking at the new Blitz fuel container with the thumb-valve as a way to make the fueling of my tractor less of a hassle, and wondering if anyone's tried them. My local Home Depot carries them.

Right now I'm using the older non-valve Blitz 5 gallon fuel container. I have to pack the area around the fuel spout with paper towel, put on latex gloves, stick a left-hand finger over the spout opening, tip the container over with the right hand, get the spout near the opening, and move my finger hoping I hit the mark.

I'm hoping the new spout will allow me to place the spout into the fuel opening and then release the fuel.

My only concern is how slow the fuel flow might be - with the new valve.

Thanks,

Ken

The one I used 2 weeks ago was junk, as well as it's brother next to it. So frustrating that I went and got a funnel and took the dang cap piece off.

I would suggest looking at a Motorcycle Fuel can (try an offroad bike shop or online) long hose and designed to be easily held.

Off onto a short rant, but again, it is our elected government doing us in for our own good.

I still don't understand the purpose of these cans. Other than to cause us to raar of course.

The three things I have seen with these have already been mentioned...
1. They are incredibly SLOW.
2. They are complete JUNK.
3. I don't think there is a GOOD purpose for them.

I guess I can't add anything else ... KennyV

When we last went to Canada I picked up a dozen spouts which I have been installing on gas cans that we have here. The spouts look like this and have a place for gas to go down and a place for air to go back up.
The best part is that they have NO MOVING PARTS. Well worth it IMO.

Thought I would add a picture.

Motorcycle Fuel Cans at Motorcycle Superstore

The ones with two handles are nice.

You want fast and controlled, they have a setup that I cannot remember the name of at the moment with a lever (like a mc clutch lever) attachment with a valve for quick dumps on races.

Look for the guys serious about hare scrambles or enduro and that is what they will be running.

But the regular ones are available in multiple colors etc. if that is a concern to you. (yellow is the diesel standard) but I myself like the clear/ translucent jugs

You can thank the EPA. They decided you shouldn't be releasing all those fumes into the air when your gas can gets hot/cold. :confused2::confused2:

But they sure love for us to spill the gas on the ground when you can get it out of the inferior spout or when you say to **** with it and take the top off and pour it without a spout.;)

I use the new blitz poly can, it has the funky valve on it, it is slower, but if you use it correctly you can avoid spills better than the old type spouts.
You just have to be a little more patient.

I bought one and thought more problems for fueling but must say although it is slow it did a good job without leaking. I have only done this once so I will have to wait and see. I think Blitz makes crap ...ever use one of their oil drain pans just to have it leak in your car while transporting it. Why why can they not make a screw cap that does not leak. All their containers leak, what a joke of a company ... but the big stores stock them and we buy them because that is what we are given for a choice.

We have not met :D

Let's just say, I pray to god every night, God, grant me patience, and give it to me now............. :D

Just kidding folks, but it is a pretty accurate reflection of my personality.

I sent a little feedback rant to Blitz from their web site. The lady who responded was very gracious and sent me another spout and a couple of the $1 nozzle extensions that are pretty much required for filling most tanks if you want to be able to empty the can.

I especially like the feature where it springs and locks shut if you don't constantly hold down the lever because otherwise I wouldn't know what to do with my free hand while I'm tilting that 40lb can of flammable poison for 5 minutes.

Thankfully my diesel cans have the slightly older ventless spouts and I can just lay them on the hood of the tractor while most of the fuel slowly dispenses.

'Quick Fill', 'Dump Can', 'Speedy Fill' etc you can get it with a dry break system (no spillage) or for 'splash gas' (regular gas tank, minimum spillage). If putting 3-5 gallons in your tractor in under 15 seconds is important enough to spend $200 - $700 on a gas can.... :confused2:

Video demonstration of a splash gas quick fill system:

YouTube - KTM Quick Fill

I have some of the 5 gallon utility jugs with the valve/hose and since the handle is at the top I don't find them particularly easy to use when full. The one in the video with a handle further down would be nice.

I've wondered if Blitz doesn't have a whole stack of poorly engineered yet EPA-compliant gas can designs just waiting in the wings. Once a year the government decides the last design wasn't a good idea and Blitz just takes another one off the stack. Frustrated consumers buy the new can thinking it 'must be better than the last one' giving Blitz a huge market every year and they just laugh all the way to the bank ;)

If you think the EPA rules for gas cans are bad you should see what we have to comply with to do remodeling work on pre 1978 houses. Do a Google search of RRP (renovation, repair and painting). Labor costs have increased by as much as 250% to meet the new regs. This is federal and applies to ALL pre 1978 houses that test positive for lead paint. So you better be sitting down when you get a price on remodeling or home improvement projects. Sorry to get off topic but this is going to be a business killer for me.

I wanted to buy a gas can for my leaf blower. I only needed a one-gallon. But all the stupid gas cans looked like the spouts would collect dirt.

They can be a pain in the butt... however, they are the only can spouts I've found that allows a full 5 gallon can to be used - without a funnel - to refuel a gas tank opening set in the middle of a large flat area such as the filler for the JD 3038E or the last lawn tractor we bought, without spilling a drop. You do have to pull off the silly cap first, though.

For fueling cars or trucks, the simplest funnel/spout extension to get by the "unleaded gas only spout restrictor" I've found is produced by cutting the bottom out of a bottle of injector cleaner or "dry gas" additive.

Those cans from about 10-15 yrs ago that biltz made that the tube pushes into the top and it has a top part that scred out to get the tube out that you pulled out and got gas on your finer to pour the gas, those tops always leak.
