I just put in a 7' tall electric fence to create a safe zone for some fruit trees that I'm planting this spring.

One lesson learned is that high-tensile wire and T-post corners don't work well. :(

The fence will hold for a while, but I'm going to have to replace the corners and ends with pressure treated posts to be able to have tight wires.

Life goes on.

Yep, I'm going to do the same thing. The people I've talked to said to go at least seven and a half feet to keep the deer out. But I'm going to use all wood every ten foot. But I think seven will be ok if the area is flat.

Wood won't work for long either if not properly braced. A 7' tall high tensile fence puts a lot of leverage on corner posts. Might as well do ir right the second time.

I use 16'-18' telephone poles spaced 30'-40', and just tension electric fence wire with the tractor. Poles are down 5' and only go up 6' with the wire. The birds love to sit and hunt bugs from the tops and have a few bluebird houses out too. My place looks like "post-henge" but the poles were free and everything is happy except for the deer. I have my orchard and garden fenced. I use my Loader Buddy to set the poles. I am in the process of expanding the garden area to more than double and may add more fruit trees as well. I have terraced with tires and plant with comfrey for a no maintence wall. There are many materials to build a fence with, I just used what I had at the time and ended up really liking it. Having the birds use the poles so much is a really nice bonus.

@RickB: I do know about the needed bracing. (I build my own trellises). I just didn't expect the corner post to BEND! The corners would be well braced for sure.
