Glow Plugs

Howdi guys.. I read through some of the Threads on Glow plugs and Diesel Starting but did not find what I need. Soooo I ask you Imperial Wizards.. I need to heat my Glow Plugs on my TA 247 3cyl Diesel to get a quick start even now in Minnesota where the temps soar to over 75 degrees in the middle of summer. hahaha Last year I did not have to do this.. Is this an issue that needs to be looked into? Last year this beast would start in below freezing temps without the glow plugs.

Have you noticed a loss of power ?, if so maybe it's time for a compression test/check.

If you don't use glow plugs, do you get white smoke from exhaust while trying to start ?, if not you might have a fuel problem.

No, Tons of Power. Only have 1200 hrs on meter. Not that its accurate but this is a Power Monster. I wonder if it is a fuel issue. So, I should Not have to fire up the Glow Plugs in warm weather??

At 70 degrees my 790 fires off in less than 2 seconds of crank time without plugs.

My Dodge CTD even less.

try some diesel fuel additive to the tank it will help.plus use the glow plugs or warm the enging with the block heater.check the oil.charge up the battery.diesels do all sorts of things when they age.and are very sensitive to temperature.good luck.

I would look into the fuel issue . I,ve never needed use mine untill its below freezing . Mines about the same model as Yours , it fires right up. Bob

I warm mine up just about everytime I start the tractor.

Thanks all. I think I will drain fuel and replace. What are the ramifications if you put in too much Power Service? That may be my problem..

I warm mine up just about everytime I start the tractor.

I suspect you're doing it properly. Check your Owner's Manual if you have one. Mine says to ALWAYS, in any temperature, turn on the key until the glow plug light on the dash goes out, then start the engine. I don't know if they're all the same of if they differ by manufacturer.

For me, if the engine isnt warm from running, I always heat up the plugs. I usually, when starting cold any time of the year, count to ten and she fires right up. If I am working and take a couple of hours break, I count to 5............Always starts with NO PROBLEM......Dennis

You will do NO harm to your tractor by using 'heaters', even if there not needed.

How much carbon build up is normal on glow plugs? My plugs are similar to NGK Y-110 6825.
