Ok - don't laugh but one of the neighbors in the area is concerned about the "unregulated emissions" from my new 2009 JD 3520 diesel engine. He seems to think the diesel in my tractor is polluting the environment and would rather see tall grass blowing in the breeze than me keeping it cut short.

Anyone have any idea what if any emission regulations the Yanmar diesel's meet.

Seems to me they must pass any/all Federal/State EPA Emisions Regulations or JD could not sell the tractors...

Thanks

I believe the Yanmars are tier II diesels. That is one step below the DPF'ed diesels...;)

Enjoy your new tractor, a friendly wave to the neighbor and then ignore him.

On Yanmar's website it says that the 3TNV84T engine is "Compliant with 2008 EPA Tier 4 and EU stage III A exhaust emissions regulations.". I would just ignore him. He can complain all he wants but as long as the engine is compliant with the standards that it needs to be, which obviously it is if Deere will sell it, than there is nothing he can do. Enjoy your tractor.

Thanks for the correction.:D I hate the different automotive and agricultural tiers....

I would suggest for cleaner air invite him over to use a Scythe to cut it for you.
He might as well rake it by hand too.

what does his yard look like?

ask him what his carbon foot print is.

and then build a fence

tom

as some one said "you can pick your nose but not your neighbors"!

Thanks guys...

Forgot to mention he is an automobile collector and has about 25 old pre-emission control, classics and performance vehicles.

Talk about the pot calling the kettle black.....

I love my JD

And when waving, don't forget to use ALL your fingers.

Interesting evolution of the 84mm Yanmars. My old 1996 3TNE84RJ
was pre-EPA stink-o-rama Diesel. My 2000 3TNE84JT is EPA Tier 2
(I think), and the piston top is even stamped "EPA". And that's
almost 10 years old.

I love the dirty looks I get from a few of the "tree hugger" group here localy with my old 1984 GMC diesel pickup. Sad thing is I get better mpg than most of the DPF trucks, she tows what I need and still returns great milage. She is totaly rust free, never seen salt, she got a fresh mil spec 6.2L last year along with a fresh overhaul on the 700r4 trans. Had a guy pass me, cut me off then run 5-10 under the speedlimit, needless to say my foot found the floorboard when I passed him and left him in a nice cloud of exhaust. Nothing is turned up, just a non turbo diesel doing its job! I would just keep using that great tractor, who is he gonna call? Cheers Mike and Michele T
