Has anyone ever seen an adaptor which would plug into a 7 pin connector on my truck and give me a 12 V cigarette lighter socket?

I need to plug in a 12 V compressor in the bed of my pickup. I know there is 12 V somewhere in the 7 pin socket there, and this would be the perfect solution.

That would not be very tough to make.

You should have a live 12 line in that 7 pin for charging RV batteries etc.

Cheapest way to go, I think, would to buy a 7 pin plug and a lighter socket and wire up yourself as I have never seen such an item.

Those are new to me too. Times and stuff is changing much too fast for some of us slow old folk to keep up!

They also make a 12v extension cord that would plug into the cigarette lighter in the truck. I have carried one for years, but can't remember where I picked it up. It is a coiled configuration and stretches out to about 20 ft.

Fellas,
I bought a 12V sprayer to spray deer plots and kill weeds....hopefully.
I need to get 12V from my Kubota. The Shurflo pump draws 7.3 Amps and the tank is only 25 gallon so it would not run more than 15 minutes or so. Suggestions as to WHERE to grab power? All the way up at the battery? Ign switch? Starter solenoid? I don't think that the taillights would carry that amperage......
thanks:confused2:

I had a deep cycle battery that provided power to a fan or two in my cabin. I have also been using it to power our 12 volt sprayer.... last for days.

I would:
1. Pull from the battery with a fuse within the first 6" or so of the wire
2. Install a relay to switch the power
3. Put a lighted switch on the dash to run the relay
4. Put a connector at the front and back of the machine
Total cost should be under $20

I have just used my jumper pack and a bungee cord to secure it for task like this

Thanks for the replies fellas.
Chris; is a "jumper pack" the self contained battery packs that you charge at home? I bought my wife one but I didn't think it would run a pump motor very long. And once discharged that pack takes about 12 hours to recharge......

And.....for Aaron Z. ...go slowly here....
1. Pull from the battery with a fuse within the first 6" or so of the wire
OK, what SIZE wire for 7.3AMPS?
2. Install a relay to switch the power
"switch" the power? you mean the on/off switch? "relay" to run lighter gage wire up to the switch?
3. Put a lighted switch on the dash to run the relay
OK, I like lighted switches.....again, "relay"?
4. Put a connector at the front and back of the machine
Connector? So I could install/remove the wires? Why not leave them in place? I was thinking of using a "cigerette lighter plug" at the rear.....I guess I could use heavy male/female bayonet type.....?
Total cost should be under $20
Auto zone or Radio Shack....or Marine store for waterproof?
We're on a roll here....give me some more input if you will. Thanks, Rob

You will be surprised how long a jump box will run things. I use mine to power the winch on my trailer and have pulled up 8 cars in one day with no stopping it. I have also ran a bilge pump in a boat for 8 hours in a pinch on a boat that was taking on water. It still had charge in the morning. I have used it to pump out 300 gallons of fuel in a tank with a 40 gallon per hour pump so that took some time. I have also used mine many times to run a 35# Minkota Trolling Motor on a dingy. It will make a dozen trips to shore and back no problem, maybe 200 yards each way.

I am guess it would run your pump for hours and then you can recharge it at night.

I have seen them though that will not put out 12 volts until there is a load on it like a battery. Both of mind will show the voltage if you put a volt meter across the leads but the type that are smart and will not put out power till a load will not show voltage.

This is another reason I love my Nissan Titan. It has a lighter outlet that is weather proof in the bed. Very handy for items like this.

Sorry, was on the way out the door.
First off, take a look at the writeups at: Wiring a Relay for Accessories , FAQ: RELAYS; how they work and how to wire it up... or Automotive Wiring Tips to get a general idea of what a relay is and how it works

And.....for Aaron Z. ...go slowly here....
1. Pull from the battery with a fuse within the first 6" or so of the wire
OK, what SIZE wire for 7.3AMPS?
Personally, I would wire for 20 amps. That way you have power to spare.
I would use 14 or 12 gauge wire and a 20 amp use. 14 gauge wire is good for 24 amps at 10 feet or 20 amps at 15 feet so you will have room to spare.

2. Install a relay to switch the power
"switch" the power? you mean the on/off switch? "relay" to run lighter gage wire up to the switch?
3. Put a lighted switch on the dash to run the relay
OK, I like lighted switches.....again, "relay"?
A relay is a remote controlled switch. The issue in most cases is that you want to turn off the device you are switching when the key gets turned off (so as to avoid killing the battery), but if you tried to pull that much power through the keyswitch it would burn it up.
As such, you use a little bit of power from the key switch to control the relay. Then everything shuts off when the key is off, the battery doesn't get drained, the keyswitch doesn't get burned up from pulling too much power through it and life is good.
I like lighted switches as they allow me to see when the switch is on.

4. Put a connector at the front and back of the machine

I like to use 2 or 4 pin trailer light plugs, but it is up to you. If you are wiring this all up, I might add a plug in front as well for future use.

On our L3830 I have a switch and relay as shown at those links which runs into the "running light" portion of the 4 pin connector. I then wired the turn signals into the turn signal wires of the 4 pin connector then I can plug a 4 pin flat equipped trailer (or a set of magnetic towing lights) into the tractor and have turn signals when I go down the road.
