Hi all,
Installed one of these lower radiator hose heaters in my BX and now it appears that every time the thermostat calls for heat there is a high inrush current that is tripping the circuit breaker.

The heater is 350 watts at 120 VAC and when oerating it draws between 3 & 4 amps per my amp clamp meter. I see the meter jump when the thermostat closes and about every 3rd or 4th cycle it trips the 20 amp breaker. I replaced the breaker thinking it maybe was weak from age and this made no difference.

I presume the heater is faulty and will have to be replaced.

Any other thought?

TIA

I would tend to agree with your assessment.

I also presume the heater is faulty and will have to be replaced.
Your heater or your wiring is exceeding the 20 amp ... by a LOT.. unless it is a GFCI breaker.
Some motor and Heater circuits will Not work well with GFCI breakers or outlets... KennyV
