Looking at a JD Z445 w/54" HC deck. I have heard good reviews on the quality of cut, apparently in part, atleast, due to the 5 1/2" deep deck. While quality of cut is most important to me,
on the downside, I understand they do not offer the smoothest ride available.
I'm good with the price (around $5000 plus TTL) but would like some feedback from anyone who may own one.

I mow about 3 acres...or I will, if it ever stops raining here.

They ride fine as long as you set the tire pressure correctly - 8-10 psi. They have an excellent transmission system (old 700-series commercial system) and a very low center of gravity. No smoother residential ZTR on the market, and I've driven quite a few of them.

I like the HC deck too. About time JD offered some deck options.

These items are not the same drive system. It is the same theory however. The ez had had a kansaki pump with parker motors. The 717/727a had kansaki pump as well (dual pump) and ross wheel motors. Oil flow was higher on the 700 series units.
