Your towing rigs and trailers

Here’s take 2 of hauling the mini x in my dump trailer. I’m not a big fan of the boom like that but it’s under legal height and the weight distribution is a lot better that way. I wanted to haul it in the dump despite having 2 better trailers because I wanted the dump trailer to pull with the mini and load trash. IMG_9661.JPGIMG_9662.JPG

Does it give you adequate tongue loaded like that? It’s impossible to tell from the picture but looks like the weight is mostly on the trailer axles but with a little on the truck. The weight on the back of excavators makes loading a little different from other equipment. Good looking setup and nice to be able to take only one trailer instead of making two trips.

That looks proper and well balanced. If you end up hauling it often in the dump, you could build a minimal cradle of sorts to set the bucket on, while keeping it low enough to get the tarp over. Is the hitch on the front blade a clamp-on deal, or did you just weld a receiver tube on top?

It had a 2” receiver welded on it when I got it but I’m probably going to weld a ball straight on the top of the blade. The hitch sticking off a foot isn’t ideal.

The dump trailer axels are farther back than a typical trailer would be. And the mini is pretty well balanced end to end with the boom up close. I took the dump trailer to the landfill the other day and it’s riding around 1000 pounds on the hitch empty. My truck with beefed up springs is hiding how much weight there is on the hitch.

I just noticed it’s a Kaufman dump. Paint falling off yet? My Kaufman is super thin and not exactly looking like the long lasting type of paint....

Only on one spot where it’s dented.

Any of you guys running a Super Duty 7.3 gasser? I'm looking at one and would appreciate any feed back.

Why the 7.3? I thought F150 eco boost trucks were amazing.

Here’s a skid steer in my dump trailer. It works fairly well for hauling compact equipment but there’s no way my M59 or tractor with implement would fit. IMG_9684.JPG

Yes, they are... wifey has a 2019 Platinum. I'm looking to trade my 18 Platinum. That clear it up for you?
Somewhat.
You were blathering on about how a 150 ecoboost was the best thing ever built, so I was mildly surprised youve already given up on it and want a bigger hauler for your kubota toys collection.

Hauled the batwing to mow some pastures yesterday. The grass is starting to green up in central Florida. Should be spreading fertilizer in a few weeks.

I bet that diesel superduty doesn't even think twice about that light aluminum trailer and tractor behind it... when 7.3 is mentioned, my thoughts go to my old 7.3 powerstrokes, much as I like them, the new 6.7s are in a whole different league... nice setup your son has there.

Unrelated the the previous posts, my new-ish truck (2016 F250, 6.2L gas, 4x4) has gotten a few things changed to bring it more in line with how I want it to look. Cab visor, tires/wheels(used, good deal, larger rough tread tires once these wear out) covered by fender flares, brush guard, and when the weather warms up, window tint. Get a steady 10.5 mpg with my mix of driving, put about 6k miles on it since last summer when I got it. The more I drive it, the more I really like it.

We do our hauling with 2500/3500 Ram diesels which stay hooked to trailers 100% of the time. But regarding the EcoBoost engines, I am surprised how well they perform. I bought a Raptor as a daily driver for the comfort and fun of it all, and I am pleasantly surprised at the torque this thing has. We don't do any serious towing with it, but I have pulled a couple of trailer-mounted generators with it through the mountains and it never lacks power with the light 4000-6000lb loads. I'd surely not want it as my only truck for the kind of towing we do, and I wonder how it will hold up when it gets some miles on it, but dang, it has the power.

Supposedly, the new 150 Powerboost is quite an experience with the upgrade on HP and torque.

That would be interesting to drive. While there is no such thing as too much horsepower, the current Gen 2 with 450HP/510 lb-ft in the Raptor is certainly more responsive than I anticipated.

Small displacement engines usually live short lives once the man sized loads get hooked to em
