it is so true. It hurts because I have been trying to take really good care of my truck so that it lasts me a few more years.

The truck prices these days make me *happy* to replace the water pump that's weeping in my 1995 Chevy.
That or get my 1948 Dodge restored. =)

Remove the mechanical fan and install an electrical pusher fan in front of the rad. Water pump life will be much improved. Less fuel used as well.

I could, but the first water pump lasted 20 years and I probably don't put 1,000 miles per year on it. Frankly, it's an in and out job, spending as little time as I can on it. Time better spent is to remove the plow frame and wire harness (sold the rest) for the plow and get it sold. Along those lines, anyone want to buy a Boss RT3 plow mount for a 88-98 Chevy and/or a 13 pin Boss vehicle harness? :D

The water pumps on my 1985 and 91 Chevy Trucks that I use for towing go out like clockwork at 75,000 miles... starters at 150,000 miles.

I think I have posted pictures somewhere back in this thread.

Completely derailed the thread at this point, but swap the mileage for me.

The new generation of LS engines seem to have better luck. Better design of starters and water pumps.

Good to know... one of these days I might be in the market for a replacement.... no other engine issues... the Carb on the 85 and Engine/Drivetrain on both 85 and 91 are all original.

still using the volvo to cart my max around. has done remarkably well (but.. I don't go very far, bout 30 miles is the furthest). Got tired of tearing up volvo transmissions and upgraded a little bit.

...was easier to bolt a 4L80 up to that than the volvo engine :-D
