Serviced my neighbour's Honda eg650 generator today. Unknown hours, but runs great and makes power, albeit a few hz high. It’s a cool little gem …

Interesting bit of history Robin.... thanks for posting that.

Probably ran plenty of AC drills, back before good cordless ones came along. Even has a DC output. I'm not used to seeing AC fused, but that might have been a space-constraint issue....

Power went down, about 10 minutes ago. 7200+ affected, no cause or ETA yet.....

No gen yet (my choice), but clock is ticking......

Power was down for about 1 hour. "Tree contact" is the listed reason. (Likely stragglers from recent ice-storm).

I'll take it.... but the area affected was widespread..... Things that Make You Go Hmmmmm......

Local media reported late-afternoon........ an Osprey had started to build a nest, on a main feeder-line into this area..... explains the wide-span outage, with no rough weather today.

last time they got serviced??? ---- well lets see, I think it was 2 years ago when I last used 2 of them and the other 6 not since the former owner used them! LOL!!
One came on the service truck and I do use it a lot out in the field. I changed oil in it a couple times. Handy to have with me to grind drill weld. it will run my 225 ac welder for emergency welds out in the weeds and saves draggin stuff back to the shed to fix.
The ones for the house never get used so they been sitting 15 years now,--no time to mess with them!

I wouldn’t worry about them too much 😁

Well heck went all through the winter without a power outage. Just sitting here and at 2:24 the power just shut off. Drove down and checked at the neighbors and they were out also, so back up and reported it to National Grid. At that time they were just reporting 5 out of service, now it's 353. Then a bit later find out a milk tanker has rolled over in some S turns up the highway about 4-5 miles. So down and started the ol IH574 and backed the generator up to the house and hooked up and purring away. Projected restoration is 7PM today we will see how they do.

Edited to add; found out that the UPS on my Starlink, network switch and modem is good for 45 minutes.

Edited; now 10PM

Edited again; they actually beat the estimate 9:30PM power back on and transferred over and shut down the tractor, move her in the morning. Time for me to head back and call it a day.

Why EMC/I matters...... at about 12 minutes in, you can see (allegedly, there may have been more gens around) what happened to sensitive HF receivers when an HF gen lit up.

Not slamming HF, and this use-case only matters to a tiny-slice of the gen-pop.....

Just turned 1647hrs on my 1200/1500w Champion. The 1 Carbon Build up issue, now the Needle and Seat are leaking. New Carb time for $26 on Amazon.

My 3750 Champion, doesn't get many hrs now that I am 90% Solar, but it fired right up after winter storage. Use it for Power Tools only.

Amazing he was receiving any signals on HF this time of the year with thunder storms overhead. I would be expecting to hear constant static crashes. To top it off, his rig is a QRP rig.

Getting up there on hours, so can't complain there. I rebuilt a Briggs carb on my oldest one before shifting to wet-storage, but it's hard to beat a complete carb @ that price.
