tomorrow is the day...
snow is coming and if my power went off and this gen didn't work because I didn't test it,
well shame on me a whole bunch of course. Going to wheel it over to rear of home and get it hooked up, and build
the cover for it. And of course turn it on and follow my printed instructions line by line to make sure they work appropriately.
If gen won't start or run on small propane tank, I'll have to put gasoline in it.

Not going to spend time getting the remote control to work. I usually want to be nearby an engine I'm starting...
Then once I knew it was running properly, would head downstairs with a flashlight and start flipping breakers.
Once I have it all tested and known reliable, then I'll play with the remote control.

Directions say to wait until 25 hours operation to change new engine oil. That could be a while.
I'm likely to change earlier to get the little bits of metal out.

Train in Peace

With portables, I like to be there @ startup, and esp.w/o an oil filter I too like to get that first change in early....

I'd say you are guaranteeing grid-uptime, but that last time I said that recently, I think Murph got "irritated"....

This chat had me thinking about arc-fault interrupters.....Haven't checked code, but I suspect they are intended for indoor use.

What is the collective verdict on arc-fault-interrupter reliability/longevity ?

Rgds, D.

When my first floor was remodeled a few years they replaced a bunch of breakers with arc faults. They were A CONSTANT problem, and I had to replace them all with standard breakers.

ARC faults were required for my place in Canada.
What a fiasco!

Thanks for the 411 Rj.

More complex tech, implemented badly..... too many days I think the Amish have it right......

Success
one day before "the big one"...
started right up on single tank of propane, helped I'm sure by afternoon sun shining
down on propane tank. Flashlight in hand, flipped main breakers and cellar lights came back on.
Put it all back the way it was and turned off the gen. Then put a temporary cover over it until
I can build the surprisingly elaborate "man that's a lot of parts" cover/tent.

I don't know what the exhaust piping on that generator consists of but that said,
I have directed exhaust flow towards fuel tanks before, heat helps.

And no it is not going to be a big hazard and blow up,
unless a tank is leaking badly you will not get a combustible mixture outside with any wind blowing.

Lou, absolutely agree with you, exhaust is on other end, but it was in the shade.
Hmmm, figured the sun would be my friend, so I put the tank out in the afternoon sun and
gen started in 2 seconds and ran without a hiccup. On cloudy days I could move the tank to the other end,
have a hose just long enough.

nice to know it starts so easily and I don't have to worry about gasoline sitting in it for months on end.
