Your last generator Maintenance Run

That people put so much faith in the Internet always being there astounds me. I can't imagine putting oneself in that position where you might find yourself with ZERO resources some day. Even their flashlight is on their phone.

Wait till you can't even use the toilet without internet !

Thanks for playing along...... that 2 gallons/hr is for your estimated Max Load ?

Current consumption estimate looking good.

If Jim Carey shows up, run !

Cable guy wasn't able to hook me up. No signal in the line. I believe because oh the power Outage. ?

Cable pedestals I've seen around here have backup batteries (line repeaters/amps ?). They don't seem to last much past 8 hours.

After the cable company got into the home phone market here they started hanging a portable gen from the top of the pole where the amplifier is after 6-8 hours of no power.

Doesn’t seem to get ya television or internet when the power is out, just phone. Before digital cable you could at least watch the news if you had a generator.

We just have over the air tv and the roku thing that hopefully will get better with an actual cable connection.
On the generator topic, I think I do need to have the frequency checked. During our 66 hours on the generator I noticed that the clocks on both the microwave and range ran fast after resetting them several times.
Is this possible?

Electric Clocks are designed for 60 hz in usa, so yes clocks can run fast or slow depending on frequency.

Mechanical AC clocks will run faster or slower depending on frequency. Electronic digital clocks shouldn’t be affected.

If it’s a mechanical governor it will not run exactly 60.0 Hz. Spec would be 62.5 no load and 59.5 no load. You should set it to run about 59.5Hz at the highest load you will ever have.

If you own a generator you should really own a meter that measures voltage, frequency and current and know how to use it safely. Voltage and frequency can easily be measured at any outlet.

Actually most LED alarm clocks depend on the frequency too. In Afghanistan it was a problem for us. All the generators there put out 50hz 220v. You had to reset the time on your alarm clock every couple days. Or get a battery powered alarm.

I added CT’S to the output wires on my Generac 22kw and tied it into the genmon monitor. I get actual frequency checks that way.
