Not to worry..... I hear that the guy who started the thread is an oil-geek too ;)

Rgds, D.
Not worrying a bit, it is just that there are PLENTY of oil thread posts out there. Generators, not as many.

Ran up my champion gen yesterday for about half an hour while I was out snowblowing. Didn稚 have a load on it. I was impressed that it didn稚 have any issues starting at -22C

-22 ? Isn't that called a Spring Day out your way ?

:thumbsup: on the Cool Running !

Next time.... anything parked nearby have a block-heater ?

Yes, the tractor has the engine block heater and the transmission heater which is 1400 watt. It would have been a decent load, except that I was out on the tractor snowblowing. I did think of it. After half an hour running unloaded the engine and generator wasn’t even warm to the touch. (Didn’t try touching the muffler)

Told the son since it's to be 46F tomorrow we should start the generator. He asked me if I was forgetting something.

We live in a drop zone and had three dogs show up hungry last fall and I didn't have the heart to send them to the death house. I thought the old coon dog would have been dead by now. A young female had 8 beautiful puppies 2 feet from the generator a few days ago.

Even more so out your way, the first thing that fires up on a site in the morning are generators, plugged into CATs for warmth..... the big ones need help too at your kind of temps.

Anything heat related is a great load..... wife might not be happy if you hauled the toaster oven and microwave out there, but one or 2 hair-dryers might do it too..... :D

Sounds like the old-dog was doing his own Circle of Life maintenance quite well then ! :)

Why are you running the gen on a warm day anyway ? ;)

Why prose like this was written.....

.....And there sat Sam, looking cool and calm,
in the heart of the furnace roar;
And he wore a smile you could see a mile,
and he said, "please close that door.
It's fine in here, but I greatly fear
you'll let in the cold and storm--
Since I left Plumtree, down in Tennessee,
it's the first time I've been warm"

There are strange things done in the midnight sun
By the men who moil for gold;
The Arctic trails have their secret tales
That would make your blood run cold;
The Northern Lights have seen queer sights,
But the queerest they ever did see
Was that night on the marge of Lake Lebarge
I cremated Sam McGee.

My wife LOVES that poem! Recites it to friends whenever we sit around an outdoor winter fire.

Was just offered a 20KW 120/340 60hz generator 'head' for $250. "NIB"
Ratings are at 1800 RPM.
I can see this running from my tractor as I have a 1000 rpm PTO setting.
My CUT delivers some 18 HP at the PTO but would need to double that rpm.

Shame is that 5-6 years ago a friend gave me a nice diesel engine (weighed 300 lbs) that would have been a perfect match.
But not having a use at the time I traded the diesel for a NIB 8 hp Honda.

The unit offered is from a very highly rated Chinese factory, (did research them) that have all the certificates etc.

Actually he has 2 unite, (still in crates)

Thinking, thinking-------
We have frequent outages where I live and for that reason I have a coupled 6 KW to handle those issues but have to rely on wood for heat .
With this generator I could have total back up.
Mind U our hydro is fairly responsive and only once on last 12 years were we out more than a 1/2 day.
Thinking, thinking-------
If I were 10 yrs younger It would be, no question.
