Refreshing to see a couple of posts about generators and not about oil :D

;) Here’s a pic of the partial enclosure I made to keep it a little dryer if it’s raining. Eventually I’ll build or find an inexpensive doghouse for it, leave it wired to my panel, and hook up a remote start switch in my basement. Going to use a power door lock actuator to operate the choke.

This works for now, keeps rain off the control panel and fuel tank.

I'd sure like to see that, pics when you are done please.

and thanks for info about oil, you'd think when they said no we have no 15/40 they would have suggested what they had...
I have gallons and gallons of the 15/40 to use up before I try anything else but I'm in a warmer climate (usually) so not a lot of issues.

JD Diesel Synthetic is on sale for $35.00 CDN, Regular $41.00 for a USG. On the one hand, my air cooled Diesel Yanmar may last longer with that oil, but what does last longer mean for something that is never used? Just $35.00 bucks spent.

And then, it may not get oil changes as often, on account of the cost. Generator does not have a filter.

You bet! Will be tackling this project once the frost is out of the ground, in this order:

- Cement pad
- “Doghouse” - well vented of course
- Bury conduit to the basement with #6 wire
- build control panel for remote key switch/choke control

Ideally, I won’t need to leave the basement until the need for extra fuel arises.

Mine is wired to the panel and on a cheap HF plastic dolly that only two of four wheels pivot. I roll it to the edge of my shed (basement extension) to be sure the exhaust vents outside.

Really need to fab a custom dolly. I have the casters and the metal... just need to draw up a plan and weld it together. A hood would be a nice option. That project just keeps falling lower on the priority list.

Ran up my champion gen yesterday for about half an hour while I was out snowblowing. Didn’t have a load on it. I was impressed that it didn’t have any issues starting at -22C
