You Know You Are Old When

Cookies?
Luxury.
Cereal?
Luxury.
My mother was an excellent cook and baker.
A very high percentage of what we ate was from the farm and she cooked it.
Groceries were the basics, sugar, coffee, tea, oil and other items we didn't grow or ran out of during the winter. Some oranges and bananas. We had apples, pears home canned fruit, jams, our own wheat ground for bread flower...
I didn't taste fast food until I was old enough to start going places with my friends.
Pizza, fast food burgers etc was stuff I only saw on TV.
Packaged cookies, cereal, never tasted them.
Didn't know how lucky I was.

My Mom was the same. She would help butcher and cook anything raised on the farm. BUT...she refused to touch wild game. I remember coming home with pheasants I'd nailed with my .22 and she told me if I wanted to eat them I'd have to prepare them. She would have nothing to do with wild birds or deer, all of which we had an abundance of!

Year after high school 6' 135#, 28x36 jeans.
This morning, 6' 235#, 38 X 28 jeans. 🙃

I blame gravity.
You sure got short.

Pants sizes consist of two measurements, the waist size (first number) and the inseam length (second number), typically represented in inches.

Not short...age.
Fred Mertz wore his pants almost up to his nips above his belly but most older guys the
belly pushes pants down. I'm 6ft & now a 40x30 is best. I'm about 215#, and can wear a 38 but they're pretty tight. If I wore pants like Fred I'm thinking I would need a 52x36.

They're probably ABOVE his nips. :)

Speaking of.... why don't more clothing manufacturers offer pants in 1" increments? I wear size 33 jeans. 32 is too small, 34 is too big. The cheapo Walmart jeans brand "George" offers 33" waist jeans, and for only $15.

Also, stretch waistbands in men's pants rock.

Speaking of keeping old clothes, I bought a pair of Tony Lama boots in 1965. I went to the Lama store in El Paso and this nice guy helped me pick out a pair. I was a college student and he directed me to a nice pair that were reasonably priced.

I took them to check out and the cashier said “do you know who that was?”. Nope. He said that was Tony Lama himself. He comes down to the store every once in a while to see what his customers want.

I still have those boots!

Same. I've never left my high school weight of 165 - 175 lb., but I do seem to have lost about an inch in height.

The hazard of never changing size is that it's pretty easy to keep the same clothes for 35 years. That's not always a good thing, or so my wife and kids sometimes have to remind me. :D

Reminds me of this from the Babylon Bee. I have a few shirts that fit into this category.

Mine go from "upstairs" everyday wear, to "downstairs" work shirts to be worn in the shop, to "tree and brush" work shirts where they get torn to shreds. Then, they get washed one more time and become shop rags. Then, and only then, will they be relegated to the trash.
