Guys (and gals :) ),

I put in a talk of fuel on Saturday and started to mow with the rotary cutter. I got about 200 yards out and the tractor lost all power, sputtered for about 30 seconds and then stopped. I towed it back to the house, changed the fuel filter (which was totally dirty), bled the lines and got it re-started. Figured it was all good.

Got about 30 feet past where I had gotten earlier and it did the same exact thing. Being late in the day, I couldn't tear it down again, so thought I'd post the story here to see if I'm on the right track and just need to clean it all up again, or if I should be looking someplace else.

By the way, I think the siphon pulled up a bunch of sludge from the container, which was the origional problem. I did clean out the fule tank filter as well.

Thanks in advance.

I would start by opening the bleeder screw at the injector pump and see if anything comes out.

If nothing comes out, crud in the lines or filter are obvious possibilities. Others are:

* The fuel tank cap is too tight, causing a vacuum after some fuel has been consumed.

* Less likely, an air leak at the filter o-ring so the pump is sucking air.

* Could you have refueled with gasoline?

Good luck with this!

I would remove the filter, drain all of that fuel, install another new filter, fill with fresh fuel and bleed the lines.

Ditto. Drain fuel tank, clean, remove fuel filter bowl, clean, fill tank with fresh fuel, bleed system at filter bowl or pump, try again. No point looking for tough issues until the simple ones are checked.

California is prob correct about the fuel bowl o ring sucking air. You should get a new fuel bowl and o ring.......

Ditto with the others.. I think you still have dirty fuel issues.. perhaps water too.

I think I'd draint hat fuel into a bucket.. then pour of fthe good stuff thru a paint filter, and save the scudgy stuff to start a fire..

(yes, it was diesel :) )

I think you may be on to something with the water. When I had the injector lines out and was cranking the engine, I noticed the "stuff" coming out was whiteish. Water, right?

When I replaced the filter I cleaned the bowl real well. I put the new filter on the nipple, then slid the bowl and screw ring up and connected them. Should the o-ring slip up inside that cup, or would it be right on the edge? It seems like when I put it up, it did not go inside the cup, but rather right up to the edge, then I just tightened the screw ring. Did I just not push hard enough to get it to "seat" properly?

Thanks for the replies so far.....I am learning something

The o-ring rests on the outside shoulder that is near the top of the bowl. You will need a new o-ring occasionally since they can harden with age.

I would also see if you can Idle the tractor at about 2500 rpm for a good 5 min. and try a good fuel conditioner.
