thanks for the link!!!.....i guess i need a service manual to see how to adjust it....

What is the governor doing or not doing? Could be the rack on you injection pump sticking.

I don't think the governor should ever need adjustment. If something is sticking - was the tractor parked for a long time? Simply operating it might loosen up sticking.

As Winston asked, what is it doing? I don't recall that anyone with a YM240 (or similar) has ever posted here about adjusting the governor.

i don't know how long it has sat i bought it as a trade in at a Kubota dealer ship....it doesn't blow any smoke blue or black

it just acts as it bogs when you rev it up and it doesn't seem to blow much black smoke under load.....i'm just going from the backhoe and dozer that i have....

is there a place to check the rack without pulling the pump?

Fuel Filter is what it sounds like. I would Replace that first and cheap at napa Part #3262..

You can pull the inspection plate off right above the injection pump to access where the governor attaches to the pump rack.

It should smoke and hold rpm under load in the same manner those, maybe not so severely. But I suspect it may loosen up after a little use. What you described is unusual.

That's the first place I'd check too. It could be that the governor is working fine and the fuel flow is restricted. That would match the symptoms. Good call.

fuel tank has been flushed, cleaned and new filter.....i'll pull the plate and have a look....

   / ym240d #12
Did you clean it or someone else. And they may have forgot to mention it was Yrs. ago..

   / ym240d #14
I would run injection clearer in your fuel, like Howes or something similar. Even if you changed your filer there could still be gummed up issues past that point

Pull the bleed screw at the injector pump & check flow. Might be the line from the filter to the injection pump is full of crud.

My 240 D looses power and smokes when the filter needs changing.

i have injector cleaner in and have good flow to the IP.......i pulled the cover and the rack was sticking....cleaned it with carb cleaner.

it pulls much better and i'm getting some smoke when it lugs down...

thanks for eveyones help!!!

When my tractor lugs down or the governor kicks in to increase the fuel for a heavy load it will smoke. Under constant heavy load it will blow light black smoke.

I decided it maybe a good idea to go check my Linkage plate to make sure my linkage is staying clean and no water dirt Etc. could be getting in. That time of Yr. and will have to hook up the FM this week it looks like. I believe I'm good and doesn't appear I may need to check my linkage for dirt or water etc. 11yrs it's been outside under a overhang. Only a couple hundred Hrs. on the Fuel Filter so I don't foresee any problems. My plate looks all intact and tight and in good shape as does my Fuel Filter and Bowl. Only sat about 5 months so it's not all that long but a good bit though. Don't recall any blow bye and if this is the plate I'm sure it's good.
