Earlier this year I wrote in for advice about low compression on my Yanmar 240D after overhauling the engine. After much trial and error, I discovered there was a small crack in the head and I am happy to report that problem has been solved. It seems the previous owner was using ether to start it during cold weather.

I now have discovered problems with diesel fuel leaking into the crankcase. Does anyone have any advice on where this could be coming from? I can tell you it does not have the original fuel filter system on it, but I cannot see how this would affect the leaking problem. It appears to be a good system and there is no connection to the crankcase.

Is there a way the injection pump can be leaking internally?

I have seen reports of this before. I believe that the problem was a diaphram on the injection pump that will allow fuel to leak into the crankcase. I am pretty sure that this can be easily replaced.
