Rear tire distance traveled in one revolution = 111"
Front tires distance traveled in one revolution = 77"
4wd engaged or disengaged? Now you need to measure the other mode, and compare.

Ideally, measure results driving one side on 2 layers of waxed paper or something that will allow slip when 4wd is engaged.

My first YM186D had 6.00 x 12's on the front when Yanmar spec's 6-12. There is a huge difference. (photo). You could see the front tires clawing their way ahead of their natural track on whatever surface, so I only used 4wd when I needed it.

I didn't feel right selling the tractor like that so I moved the 6.00 x 12's to my present YM186D, the one with a loader, and again seldom use 4wd. I need to buy the right tires for it. I see that R-1's sold now have lower tread than older ones. Who sells 6-12's with original-height tread like in my photo?

You just want to see me steal the roll of wax paper from the wife (who hasn't used it in months), unroll it in the driveway, watch it blow away in the wind (repeatedly), and then have to answer to 'where did all my wax paper go?!'

Ohhhh i'm onto you California. Not fooling me....

Tire sizes are all over the place and I don't understand why. You would think there would be a standard and everyone would just stick to it. Here are two 7-16 R1 tires with the same exact markings and same exact brand. One is easily 3" taller than the other. A 7-16 R1 Firestone falls right in the middle of the two. A Carlisle is a little different too.

Having shopped the ag tires before switching to turfs i gleamed as much.... Love the turf tire kit I bought from you guys, and have no complaints... I can live with how my shifting is now, now that I know to be extra careful with the 4x4.

Todd I have a 2210d that was Fredrick's referb. I just got it about a month ago and after I got it home I realized that I had a very hard time getting it into 2nd gear on my range shifter, I mean very difficult. 3rd & 4th were a little stiff too. I tried several things like tying to shift it into gear when it wasn't running, clutch in or out, tires off the ground and nothing helped. I figured that it was just the way it was. But the other day I really wanted to use it in 2nd gear and I pulled back on it really hard and fast, it went in but went in firmly. When I went to go take it out of 2nd gear it didn't want to come out. When it did come out of 2nd gear it really popped! Now it shifts fine.... I don't know what the problem was, I don't think I broke anything or at least I hope I didn't. I hope it doesn't act up like that again and stays like it is now. Anyone have any thoughts? Maybe the tractor sat to long before I bought it? It was referbed 2 years and only had 1hr put on it in that 2 year period.

Boy, i don't know.... Questions:

If the tractor is 4WD; does this happen both in and out of 4WD? Is it stiff to put into 4WD?

Is it hard to shift with the tractor off/not running?

***** Sorry just saw the part about shifting when off.

Does it ever go in easily? Roll it around some and try?

How much free play is there in your clutch?

Don't force it into gear, that is certainly going to make your troubles worse...bent shifter forks..

Doesn't matter if it is running or not running. No real play in the clutch. Doesn't matter if it is in 4x4 or 2x4. But like I said ever since I pulled on it real hard and it came out hard it's been fine since then, but that was also 2 weeks ago. Hopefully it's ok. No problems yet so I will keep my fingers crossed. Did you ever get yours figured out?

My problems all seem to be related to the tire sizes/ratios and 4WD - creates enough bind to cause shifting issues. While in 4WD i have difficulty shifting into/out of 3rd and 4th gear. If i lift the front tires off the ground I can(90% of the time) do the shift no problems. If I lift and it is still stiff I just need to roll a bit and it will go. I plan on keeping an eye out/researching for a lower profile tire (smaller diameter) for the fronts.

I don't know... Mine seems to be difficult (stiff) shifting the ranges too.. Never noticed if it's easier in 4 wd or non 4 wd.. Just always seemed to have been stiff... I mostly shift with the power shift and leave the range in 1 gear
