I have an older 1970s model YM2210B and in need of information and location to put in a block heater. I am having an issue locating a threaded hole for the heater. Any locations or video would help greatly.
Thanks Frank

Is the threaded heater you bought specifically for your model tractor? Not all engines are going to have a threaded plug in the block. All will have freeze plugs, where the majority of block heaters are installed.

I don't think I have ever seen a threaded coolant plug on a YM2210 block. Many of the 3 cylinder Yanmars have them but, for some reason, most of the 2 cylinders don't. The freeze plug holes are typically too shallow for a block heater. I have seen some freeze plug extension tubes on ebay (for Kubota I think) but I'm just not sure if I would trust them to stay in there. I'm sure they must work but looks suspicious to me.

Many years ago I made a few batches of water pump back plates that had a small block heater threaded into it but that block heater was discontinued and we could not ever find another one thin enough to screw into that plate.

(edit: I found a picture of the custom water pump back plate in case anyone was interested)

No, sir, I haven't purchased one yet. I wanted to see what the options were as to where to put one. She is a tough cookie to crank when cold. Have you had any experience with the magnetic types?

Thanks, Aaron, I really didst want to punch a plug out and have a problem getting it sealed back up. I might try a magnetic type. If you have any history of those, I'd appreciate any info. Thanks.

Someone here probably has personal experience with them and can help better but the general feedback I have received on the magnetic heaters is that they work fine unless it gets really cold. If you throw a heavy blanket over the engine it will help a lot too.

They make heaters that mount on your radiator hose too.
Just cut the hose and clamp it on. I use to have one on my Mitsubishi tractor.
They probably work just the same. (maybe)

You can get one that goes in the bottom radiator hose.

Not on Yanmars, but I know folks who like the Wolverine brand silicone heaters.
Does your YM2210B have a thermostart in it? (Near the top of the intake manifold?) If so, does it help?

All the best, Peter

Yanmar 2T90 has a plug in the block, item-45.
Could this be used? I do not know.

For the YM 3-digit models with the 2 cylinders having a plug like this,

Again, on the 2TR13 and upwards,

I'm showing a thermal start start for a 2210. Same one on my 2000. It does help. I don't have the cold start problem now. I reconditioned a old gas ford tractor. Carb. and choke. But I had to deal with it for decades with only the Yanmar.
TE-1520 Thermostart plug. I've seen this before and be careful. Not knowing the 2002,2020,2202,2220 Etc. uses it. But a different style Thermostart plug for the 2210. It's listed under the old TE-4450. YM2000 Etc.
If I was in cold climate I would most likely have a Elec, heater also. You can tell a big difference When your have to "cold start it". Grandfather used a Light Bulb and and a Blanket! Old Chevy's. Mtns. of WV.. In the 1960's.
I would try the hose heater. IMO. Block damage and don't want to risk it!

YM2000 location and no Reservoir. I squirt some fuel to it if I would have to use it.
