Ym 3000 alternator questions

Hello to all and thanks for all the help I already got from reading the site.

My first question is I recently bought a used ym3000 w/loader with a few minor electrical problems I have discovered that a 1980 dodge D50 mini pick up has the same alternator set up as my 3000 (Mitsubishi) only with the built in regulator @45 amps which I believe is the same as the factory is there some reason I couldnt convert this tractor to a alternator with a built in regulator as apposed to the original generator separate regulator design as it is cheaper and simpler etc etc etc Thanks in advance to anyone who has the knowledge and time to respond.
I just looked it up and the factory alt has 35 amps

G'day and welcome to TBN:thumbsup: go for it there is no reason you cannot replace it just make sure you wire up correctly

if you could contact a local starter alternator rebuilder they are 2 small nippondenso alternator deigned for komatsu equipment that you can make work the 2 units have available a self exciting regulator that will allow the change with very minor wiring changes to work. if they dont know what you are talking about call me i will give you the part numbers and somebody in your area to get them from 800-303-3170.

I put a hitachi alternator on my yannie.. uses an old style chrysler vreg.

of course.. a delco 10si is about 25$ at a junkyard and is a good repalcement if you got the room.

The 1980 Dodge d50 alternator for the 2.0 engine was almost an exact match (had to add 3 flat washers on the bottom bracket) harness,belt,everything else fit just had to alter the light panel a little to put the oil light in the circuit or you could just use a different oil light I just wanted it in the original panel should fit ym 2500,ym3000,ym etc etc etc .
