Yanmar YM4300 DT

I recently purchased an old YM4300DT
I can figure most of the controls out except one:

the selector box for 2wd - 4wd
on the left side of the box is a shifter for 2wd - 4wd and clearly marked
on the right side of the box is a shifter identical to the 2wd - 4wd shifter, but I can't seem to figure out what it does. It seems to make it run in some kind of creeper mode no matter what gear or range (hi or lo) that I am in.

Does anybody have any idea what this shifter might control?

it's a splitter. splits all the ranges. I had one on a fx28d and used it all the time.
