yes i agree you can find oil filters and service kits. i think its like you say its when the part becomes more expensive than the tractor. the way i was looking at it just now was that my massey 35 is starting to shpow her age no shame but i can still get the same money as we payed for her 10 years ago . so thought if i could get a half descent larger 4x4 compact to replace here that will work the log splitter saw bench i would not need to put to much more money towards that cheaper than fixing the mf ? i know the ym 1500 you can get the engine kits and startes stuff like that thats why i bought it knowing items like that were available so wandered if you guys know of a model like that that had a good supply of major parts as in the uk its 95 grey imports? or chinese?

In the UK i dont think any of us can fathom a guess? We can get stuff that yall dont have there and cheaper. So what may be common here may not be there, but if we can get it its just the oversea shipping that will cost you on top of part but thats not a killer unless your talki9ng engines or axles or something.

But most of the models are well supported, and i think yanmar is the best, even better than some of the "suposedly domestic" models that are Himoto or shirabu based. As far as i know the 2200 and there is a few other yanmars that are not as well supported but still many commmon parts are still had.

A guy i work with said he has a JD 1020 tractor that his starter is $400-500 or so dollars. But he only buys JD parts for what ever reason. That is crazy high to me.

yes i think you have summed it up about the uk well. and ilive up north in scotland so its more of a problem . and postage cost here well they add extra cause they say its remote. anyway thanks for the reply the vintage tractors here are well supported for parts old david brown ford mf to name a few. but as i said i can get the same money we payed for the mf and its starting to show its age so though well if i can get a good second hand compact 4x4 around 20 to25 to run my log splitter saw and other bits i would not need to spend out a great deal of money as they vary in price from 3 to 4 thousand pounds. i just wanted to know that if i got one that major parts can be got ? two of the models that pop up here a bit are a the iseki2160 and the iseki ts2202 ? any you guys had one or know about them? thanks

I dont know much about Iseki. But i do know that there a japaneese tractor that probly is just as reliable and simple as the yanmars and looke just like the Yanmars Mitsus and Kubotas of the time. BUT around here (dont know personally) but i would think repair parts would be more of a problem to obtain. Not necissarily things like starters and alts as those are more common id think and can be rebuilt anyway. Im talking more about things like steering knuckles or seals (you can get them anywhere you just have to do more reasearch than i have to do by sitting at my PC and clicking on Hoyes website for what i need), steering parts as well as engine kits etc.

As for The MF it should last forever. Those were good american made iron that lasts for ever and is basically infinitly rebuildable. They will easily go thousands of hours. Is it way down on compression, or use to much fuel? I understand the want or need for another tractor but that tractor will work circles around a 25hp tractor. But if prolly dont have a loader and if all you want is to run a pto genny or run stand alone things than its prolly more efficient for that type of work (small CUT tractor that is.).

o the ferguson is 7000 plus hours prob nearer 8000 i think its the engine with the cast liners ?? o its a bit heavy of the steering in small areas that the compacts can shoot round . the mf i use on the road and only plough and split wood and use a table saw and pull a 2 ton trailer maybe twice a year so i though a compact would do that and would then have a 4x4 to ? but i could look for a newer large tractor but they make big money here as they export them to the third world and eastern europe then the rest are swallowed up by vintage collectors or rally tractor. or ploug show tractors.usec anyway i was talking to a friend who works on a local farm and was asking him about hydraulic oil for the back end of the yanmar he said that on the fergusons they have they get a uni oil that dose backend plus engine ? but i told him to check what grade or numbers were on the can? to ask you guys what you thought ? what is the grade in numbers you guys use ie like 10w 40 we use in engines here?

They use the same oil in engines as trannies?? What we use in our trans/hydro systems on most all tractors made since the 60's is called "universal tractor fluid" It can be made under any brand or name(often they have thier own name for it). Its 10w-20W. BUT ITS NOT engine oil! In yanmars it is known and done by several that you can use ATF trans fluid for cars in it, like a Dextron type. I know MJ peterson over there in Poland uses it in his. The fluid i have is some that i bought at TSC, i have some in a 5gal bucket ready to change it next time that i bought at Agrisupply when i swung by (they are about as cheap as i have seen at around $35/5gals).

I have used this fluid before but i actually have "accell" brand of fluid in mine now, also bought at TSC but was $5 cheaper at the time so i got it, not sure if they still carry it or not?

yes when he said that i was not sure about using the same oil for the engine . he is going to check so i will let you know what he comes back with. we have a motor factor in the next town so next time im there i will see if they have any trans fluid 10w=20w boy oil is cheap in the us? you know diesel here to buy at a filling station would work out around $13 a gallon red diesel would be around $7 cheap oil which is re manufactured here ie used oil made new would be around $100 for 5 gallons. will let you know what the guys says about the oil when i know . thanks

Im sorry its 10w20 weight. not "10w20w" which i think i wrote. BUT again THIS is NOT just engine oil at that weight, it has additives in it for the hydro and trans use.

Are there any refineries there that make oil? Most of ours is made here in the US. Its either made along the coasts weather East coast or Gulf coast as well as some inland ones in the Indiana/michigan area i beleive?

At $13/gallon for road deisel our economy would be crippled!!

i was not sure about using the same oil for the engine .

I found a UK website describing the transmission fluid you need. Shell calls theirs Spirax S4 TXM, formerly called Shell Donax TD 10W-30.

This link shows a BobIsTheOilGuy thread that list about 50 more names for the same product. I'm sure some of those, BP Tractranｮ UTH etc, are available where you are.

As for Yanmar motor oil - just ask locally for the same oil as the largest diesel highway trucks use in your area.

thanks very much guys for the info i now know what im looking for. o yes its very expensive here for fuel here so compacts are taking of quite big here as you can get one for the price of a small petrol ride on mower that cant do half what a compact can do but i would say the biggest majority of the new compacts here are chinese and the rest grey compacts no majo=r dealers selling or breaking them like you have in the us. many thanks billy
