Yanmar tug of war

Sad but sounds like the boy that was killed pulling up a Fence Posts I believe it was with a Rope around the Rear drive wheel. I believe it was LMTC that frequently posted it and how ROP's. would of prevented it.
 Don't do it just because you have them and find out Not So.

I believe there is a safer and more practical way to find which tractor will out pull the other. If you could hook up each to the same all purpose plow, lets say a 5 ft. 7 shank. Drop it into the soil side by side, and have each tractor take a pull at it just to see how far each would pull before breaking traction and can no longer pull. Measure these distances and you'll have you answer.. basically. Like the sports tractor pulls with the sleds .

The YM2000 would likely win because of more motor under the hood and that Low 1st is a heckuva pulling gear(about 3ft per minute at redline),but both pull great espessially if theres water in the tires. The main factor I can think of is which one has the most weight to hold the front down, they're both extremely light...

I say we forget the entire pull idea and line them all up face to face, then play chicken

I have very rarely not had enough power with a compact tractor. Virtually always, the limiting factor is traction. I'm a big fan of the 2000's engine, don't get me wrong, but the motor isn't going to be the determining factor in a pull off.

As Carey pointed out, the risks involved in tethering a tractor to anything and seeing what happens are severe. The story he referenced is a tragedy, and something all operators should read. A boy, working with his grandfather, was pulling posts using a chain wrapped around the post and through the wheel disk. Driving forward lifted the post out of the ground. One post was more secure, the throttle was up, and the boy let out on the clutch. The post didn't move, so the tractor did. It reared over backward. The machine DID have a roll bar, described as well built by the investigators, but the cast axle housing
fractured. The roll bar collapsed, the boy was crushed, and died. Obviously, the grandfather and everyone else were devastated, since there were multiple alternative courses of action that wouldn't have resulted in his death.

In soft dirt, pulling the same plow, my YM2000 out pulls my YM186D. On harder soil, I think my 186D pulls harder. I haven't yet quantified that.

Put an implement on each tractor's 3-point to act as a wheelie bar.

Problem solved. :)

I say aye to the idea of an implement pull off that is more real world test of ability and obviously a lot safer no one wants the be able to say I told ya so or worse.

A 1-2 bottom plow in new ground would be a lot of drag on a 1600-2500# tractor imo. I know thats what gives my tractor a work out more so than anything else.

And as always if this actually happens and someone with the 2 tractors gets curious get videos please!

186D on hard pack, by the least, most infinitesimal amount. The 2000 has the advantage pulling in soft dirt and generally handling an implement. No videos or photos, it was fairly anticlimactic.
