I found a yanmar diesel that is a 18hp 3TNA68, but it is the same block as the 3TNA72 (455 diesel tractor motor), so i was wondering how you would crank up the juice to bring the engine into spec of 22hp. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Well. The last two digits in a yanmar model number indicate the bore size in mm. So if those engines are indeed the same block, they are different displacement. Look for a screw on the injection pump that has a tamper evident coating on it. That's the one you want to tamper with to make BIG power!

Sort of on topic.
Has anyone turned their pump up on a 455? How much and what was the performance like?
What is the chance of damage?

I turned the fuel up on a F935 with the same motor. More smoke....a lot more smoke and no real noticeable power increase. Unless yours will not smoke at all turning up the pump will not give you any worthwhile power increase. These small engines generally are working close to their limit and have very little room for increased power. Turbo charging will give you more but that is a whole new ballgame.
As for damage, likely not unless you run it past the smoke point. Smoke means excessive exhaust temps which will cause damage.
