I have a YM1610d and want to install a soft plug heater. I called my local NAPA store and they weren't too helpful, there many heater configurations and I don't know what will work.
Has anyone installed a block Heater? If so could you tell me part no. and suppliers? How about replacement soft plugs?
Thanks. Suds

Suds,
Go to your local JD dealer and ask them for a block heater for a 650 JD. That is what I used & it worked just fine

I put a Yanmar block heater on my YM1301D last year and it works very well. It threads into the block on the exhaust side in place of a threaded plug. There were two on my tractor, and I used the rear one because it was more accessible. Here is the thread where I posted the information. Here is the meat:

For those interested, the Yanmar part number for the engine block heater that threads into the side of the engine block is:

Part# 2358980
Description: Engine Block Heater for 135, 155, 165, 169, 180, 186, 187, 195, 220, 240, 226, 276

It should work for your YM1610D.

Marv, Thanks for the information. I am heading for the mid
west and I should pass a JD Dealer.

I had to go out and look at my engine again, no threaded plugs, has driven in soft plugs.

The screw in Yanmar heater will not work on a YM1500 & some of the US models . I sell a heater for the lower radiator hose for models without the threaded freeze plug.

Suds,
My YM1301D has the standard freeze plugs on the intake side of the engine. On the exhaust side, there are two threaded plugs. I'm really surprised that the YM1610 doesn't have them.

How did you get the plug out? I bought a Yanmar block heater from Len this spring and so far I have been unable to get the plugout. I used penetrating oil, Brutus(my frirnds large impact wrench), and plain old breaker bars and the only thing that happened is the 1/2" plug hole is starting to get out of shape. This is on a FX175D and the plug is on the exaust side. Any ideas?

Mine came out very easily. I just put a ratchet extension into the plug, put my ratchet on, and turned it out. As I said, there were two, in the block area between cylinders. I chose to use the one toward the rear since the one closer to the front was partially obscured by the hydraulic lines (I think).

Did you try to remove both?

By the way, how do you like the FX175D? I think that would be the ideal loader tractor for my uses.
