Wrong House picked for Home Invasion

would also need to clarify which side of the door is the psychopath, it could go either way.

Thats the problem (for me) with carrying a gun. Obviously you have to carry it all the time. Then it affects your way of thinking, the way you socialize. And the way you deal with other people. What if two TBN members found themselves on each side of a door? Yikes.

It might have been different if the invader had a gun instead of a knife. I wonder how many invaders are arming more heavily when they hear about this on the news?

This guy (in Coalville) is lucky to be alive though, and the intruder got what he deserved (ideally a casket not a settlement).

HUH? Can you flesh out this psycho at the door scenario a bit for us? Such what is the psycho's intent and how is he armed and how is the homeowner armed and what is his mindset? I need more info please.

James I think it is obvious where the victims of home invasions come from....Sad to see...Must be nice to live in La La Land and make believe..;)

My driveway.

I find these entertaining to read but would never want to explain them to a judge after an altercation on my property. I think a prosecutor could have a field day with stuff like that.

You mean an example as if Brin came over and he was armed (concealed) and I was armed as a homeowner, I would politely ask what he wanted, and he would politely tell me, and identify himself, and then I would invite him in to pull up a seat. I don't have any problem with persons around me being armed as long as they are not belligerent or threatening me. I have absolutely zero fear of guns, A gun will never hurt me, but I cannot say the same for some people.

It's gonna matter where you live. Around here it would be considered premeditation. In Texas it would be considered a Public Service Message.

You make a valid point, also many people think what they post on the Internet doesn't matter in real life. A prosecutor would indeed find all posts and use them as evidence against you. Be careful what you say on TBN, it could come back to haunt you.

The psycho's intent is to shoot you dead. Armed with a small frame pistol that is easy to hide. The homeowner thinks because he has a pistol in his pocket or under a couch cushion, it is safe to open the door, at least a little. If the psycho can get you to answer the door without your weapon aimed and ready to fire, you die. All it requires is a little subterfuge and taking advantage of the element of surprise. The psycho knows what they plan to do. The homeowner is always reacting, and therefore always behind in what is unfolding.

Suppose, if I were a psycho, I knock on Brin's door. I am decently dressed and clean. It's mid-afternoon. I am cradling a large bible in my hands held about waist high. Brin opens the door, I smile, start to say something, but then drop the bible saying 'oops!' like it was a fumble while I raise the pistol that was in my hand concealed by the bible and fire. Brin goes down shooting a hole in his pocket if he lives long enough. Ten to one, Brin's eyes were following the bible.

I pull quickly into someone's dooryard honking my horn. I skid to a stop and run around to the passenger side where I help a frail looking girl/woman get out. The homeowner steps out their porch with a shotgun in hand. I yell, "I think we need help!" I face the homeowner with my arm at the woman's back--as if I am helping her stay upright. I help the woman walk slowly toward the porch. If I can get the homeowner within 15'-20' of me without aiming his shotgun prepared to fire, my frail, sick looking accomplice knows it's time cough out a mouthful of tomato juice and double over and grab her stomach. Meanwhile I am shooting the homeowner with the pistol that was in my hand behind her back. Do you think the homeowner was looking at my hand, or looking at the tomato juice?

Even-though armed, you can be tricked many ways by a person who has zero empathy or remorse, can act a little, and can appear normal for a half a minute. There is not much you can do about it unless you greet everyone with a leveled gun, or lock yourself away in a fortress while living in fear of going anywhere.

You think maybe not? My brother was a LEO for tens years. The academy training included approaching a stopped car with 2-4 people inside--one or more of whom intends to shoot you--of course you don't know that for sure, or which one(s). Every trainee in his class died in that scenario and/or shot an unarmed person. Some threw down their guns and screamed when shot at. The lesson being taught was you might survive if you fire back, even if you have been shot. Give up and you will probably be a goner for sure.

Yes, it is fortunate there aren't many stone-cold psychos, buy it only takes one crossing your path.

What you say is certainly possible Dave, As you may remember Bob and I were also law enforcement officers. You still have to keep your wits, and be alert. Of course a handgun needs to be in your hand behind your back not in a pocket. But nothing can guarantee you will win a confrontation every time. Even if you had a gun leveled at the aggressor, which would be illegal in many if not most jurisdictions and certainly not recommended, even that would not guarantee you would win the confrontation.

All you can do is keep your "spidey sense" up and watch the hands. Then if need be shoot straight and until the threat is no longer a threat.

But the bigger picture is even though there are no guarantees in life, you should still be as well prepared as you can be.

I would hate living in fear. As I once read somewhere "WORRYING does not take away tomorrow's TROUBLES, it takes away today's PEACE."

You are sadly mistaken, this is not fear, it is the initiative. Taking responsibility for one's own safety. You want to know real peace ? Carry a 45 under your shoulder, you won't have a care in the world...
