I'm very prepared for things that have a remote chance of actually happening to me. It's the Eagle Scout training I guess. Packing a gun on the off chance someone will rob me or I'll stumble upon an armed shooter isn't one of them. Earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, power outages, ice storms, medical emergencies are all things I'm prepared for.

I married my match (except for age:D) in that she's intelligent, witty and physically active. The fact that she has guns is offset by her ability to be a smart, informed and well trained gun owner - a condition that is woefully lacking in most parts of America (present company excepted). A case in point lately is the group of yahoos walking into various fast food restaurants with weapons at the ready. Really, if they want to play with guns that badly they should enlist in the military - at the very least it would give them some training and might assuage the need to act like attention ******. I'm not against gun ownership. I am FOR responsible gun ownership, and when they elect me King, that might include restricting ownership for some and make purchasing a weapon a much more involved and invasive process than it is currently.

OK, rant mode is off.

I sure agree with you...Hard to believe the Yahoos taking long guns especially out in public expect it to do anything but turn folks against the 2nd amendment...In my opinion, it should be concealed carry only...this open carry does noting but scare folks like roadrunner...I would not feel comfortable out shopping with my family and some idiot comes in with a big gun on his side or shoulder...You make a good point and they are going to harm all responsible gun owners and concealed carry folks...

Statistical probabilities are meaningless if you find yourself in a life threatening situation. In over thirty years of preparing "Crime Victim Impact Statements", the phrase I most often heard was, "I never thought this could happen to me."

I no longer carry very often and don't answer the door armed anymore, but I certainly see nothing wrong with doing so and don't see those who do so as alarmists.

We live in the country in a low crime area, but two men tried to car jack my son down by our barn several years ago and our home has been burglarized.

Yep, sad but true. It's crazy what folks will do for a drug fix!

I sure know that James; I'm just getting complacent in my old age and with little kids in our home more often now, it's just harder to have a gun handy and safe.

Hey, I was just happy that the house I bought last year still had the copper piping at the end of escrow! Apparently with the number of foreclosures, tweekers look for houses for sale then sneak into the crawlspace and take the copper.

I can say that I never grab a weapon when I go to answer the door.....because if I'm awake and not at work or a school event it is already in it's concealed holster on my side. Pray for the best, be prepared for the worst.

Well Now, that's a real cute response.....and making fun of my quote I have on my signature shows you are a real class act...

For what it's worth, not everyone on TBN can see members' signature lines at the end of each post. I have opted to turn off the display of signatures in my account's General Settings section. I'm sure others have too.

Not true!! A couple of them ran their car over my tulips this spring as they were leaving and didn't even stop to apologize!

That really opens the question; "Why were they in such a hurry to leave?" ;)
