Wrong House picked for Home Invasion

would also need to clarify which side of the door is the psychopath, it could go either way.

Thats the problem (for me) with carrying a gun. Obviously you have to carry it all the time. Then it affects your way of thinking, the way you socialize. And the way you deal with other people. What if two TBN members found themselves on each side of a door? Yikes.

It might have been different if the invader had a gun instead of a knife. I wonder how many invaders are arming more heavily when they hear about this on the news?

This guy (in Coalville) is lucky to be alive though, and the intruder got what he deserved (ideally a casket not a settlement).

What??? Packing self defense does not make me change how I socialize or how I think. Why would it you?

…..As you may remember Bob and I were also law enforcement officers…….. you should still be as well prepared as you can be.

Lots of my friends have guns. Very few of them "carry" but often its in the pickup. I don't know anyone whose shot a person (or has been shot). They often talk 'big' as if they'd know what to do in a confrontation (I doubt it) and I don't want them to be in that situation.

So true. Probably has to do with perspective. I live in one of the most rural parts of the united states. We drive 2 hours to go to a mall or chain restaurant. all our neighbors are farmers and ranchers who are as honest as the day is long. You will find keys in most cars, trucks, tractors, and equipment you see but nobody steals anything. I am so thankful that I dont' have to worry about all the crime that happens in other parts of the country.

I leave the house unlocked during the day. If someone really wants in your house all they have to do is break window, kick door, pick lock, etc.. it's not that hard. I figure if they want in they will get in no matter what so I might as well save myself the trouble of fixing the door or window. I leave keys in the cars at night. I figure if someone wants my car I would just assume they jump in and leave my property instead of coming in the house to find the keys.

I do have guns but I hope I never have to use then on another person.

Not sure I understand what is to be gained running around the internet talking about how tough you are and how you are mature enough to shoot intruders and how you are going to put 4 in the body mass of anybody who comes in and you are going to carry a shotgun out to greet any visitors.

It's a matter of perspective. Not all of us live 2 hours from a mall or a McDonald's, or for that matter from an inner city gang. I have lived in a similar area, where your family and property were safe, except maybe from the occasional rattler that liked to hunt the varmints in the back yard, and we didn't lock our doors either. I have also lived in a place where you couldn't leave anything valuable in sight of the street and expect it to be there in the morning, and that includes bicycles, hub caps, spare tires and BBQ grills.

Some of us live in rural areas that are frequented by big footed, sticky fingered individuals from nearby ghetto areas and a gun can provide a lot of comfort to those of us who live alone and are over 70. I for one cannot understand what there is to gain by criticizing and ridiculing those who "carry a shotgun to greet any visitors" when the subject under discussion is about home invaders.

Its not "criticizing and ridiculing" to discuss the loss in civility that brandishing a lethal weapon creates. Of course there are manyl situations where people can carry guns around and not experience a loss in civility. Hunting, for example, or shooting targets, showing a new purchase, but not up-front when "people visit".

People will simply stop visiting, and then there you are, in a lonely world, reading shocking news on the internet, making up protection scenarios & raising little psychopaths that others are inclined to arm against. It's a death spiral for our country, don't kid yourself.

I think people were much more civil 50 years ago, they had guns back then too, and losers, but didn't have the internet stirring everyone up. This is because people type solo on the internet. It wouldn't come to this real life. (JMHO of course)

And a lot fewer people shooting up schools, places of worship, businesses, etc. Times have changed, and it ain't because of the people who carry guns solely for protection.

Agreed, but I think it's a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Because if you shoot someone you better have your it was "him-or-me story" all worked out ahead of time, without getting yourself in a state of psychosis…..and then get riled at something and go shoot someplace up.

Easy for some, not so easy for others. The more people out there carrying guns, the more you'll need to carry yours, so be careful advising everybody and his dog to carry, unless this is the world you're looking for. I don't see it as any good for society (or for the working LEOs).

I would like guns to "be what they were 50 years ago" not such hot-button internet talk (if that makes any sense) but that's just a wish, and if wishes were horses?

Sodo, With all due respect I think you may be the one getting all worked up....Concealed Carry Permits have been available in most states throughout history...this is nothing new...people have always been able to carry guns for protection if they could pass a background check.

In my opinion the societal paranoia is being whipped up by the anti gun crowd, you know, the ones who blame guns not people for all the shootings. I also believe an armed society is a polite society...What anti gun folks never understand is when guns are taken away from law biding folks , only the criminals will have guns...they will never turn them in.

Think of all the tens of millions of guns in the US and how little gun crime there really is...Now think of all the people who have concealed carry permits in the US ...Millions and how many shooting do you see on the news involving a concealed carry permit holder...

Just some things you might want to consider...:2cents:

I think I understand why most forums ban discussions on politics, religion and guns.
