wrench size for Cat 1 pins?

I have several implements that have Cat 1 pins that have a nut to fasten. My 1-1/8 wrench was too small so I bought both 1-1/4 and 1-1/2. Too small and too big, respectively.

Before I return the wrenches and ask the hardware store to special order a 1-3/8, do these pins actually take a metric wrench size?

I thinks a couple of mine need the 1 & 5/16" wrench. Best to measure the nuts so you know.

Large cresent wrench fits mine also, although I do have sockets and wrenches. It is just too easy to grab the adjustable and head out to the tractor when I need to change a pin.
If you need a quickie wrench, a piece of plate and a torch will make one, just take the nut and trace it onto a piece of plate, and cut inside the line. Leave the piece as long as you think you need for a handle, and maybe bolt a piece of wood to it for a handle. Works great when you need a wrench but everywhere is closed on the weekend...

You cant tighten tight enuf with a crescent wrench. These should be tightened to about 500ft lb. Open ended wrenches will damage that sized nut at that torque.

Most Cat I pins use a 1-5/16" nut on a 7/8"NF thread. An open end wrench IS hazardous to use at the torque level required to keep these pins tight. I don't worry so much about damage to the nuts as my knuckles and other soft body parts.

The best method to keep these pins tight is to throw away the lock washer and use medium or high strength loctite on clean, dry threads and torque the nuts properly. If no torque wrench is available, all you can pull on an 18"- 24" wrench is probably close enough. I use a 30" drift pin through the lynchpin hole to keep the pin from turning.

We are not working on a Geo Metro here; this is a job for large tools.

I am. I use a good 1/2" impact wrench and hold until all progress stops. On an implement that has high inherent vibration & shock, like a bushog with trees, handwrenching is not enuf. You get movement at the joint and periodic retightening becomes necessary. If your joints are stable when tightened with an open end wrench you just arent using your implement hard enuf. X

Well will admit never did know my own strength as they say,when I put a wrench on something,and throw my 265 lbs into it a little,things get tight.
Torgue wrench for me is just so I don't strip threads off/out.

Like greenmule put a wrench in the arms of a 280lb guy most things never get loose

now after saying that !!!!! after 30 yrs of fixing most anything and everything if I could reasonable mount a compressor on my lil toy Id have air tools with all the time lol

Power tools man's way of making up for aging I once thought air tools were the way old men work now that I are one they sure are nice now if only I could have figured out a way to make a power driven 3 ft pipe wrench most of my body might still be in good shape
