Is there a mower/tree /brush cutter that can handle standing trees and brush to say 4 or 5 inches in Diameter ? Anything I see is about 2" max on cutting diameter .I have a Kioti DK45 and would love to find something that can get the job done .
Thanks ,

They make machines that will grind up everything in its path(wood/stumps/brush) but you will pay a small fortune for this type of equipment.I do not know if they would make anything small enough for your tractor though.

They make HD bush hogs that will handle 4" stuff and "tree cutters" that will handle up to 6-7" material. Brown makes a few models of tree cutter. Most of these need about 60hp to run though.

Rhino makes the LJ72.. the LumberJack.. it's made to back over trees up to 6" in diameter. It'll take a big tractor to power it.. 90 min hp required.. and the implement weight is at 2500 lbs.

I use the FEL to push or dig trees when clearing.. the tree spikes that remain after just bush hogging can puncture your tires.

The same people who import Valby Chippers bring in a line of tree/brush cutters. They come in many sizes and I think the smaller ones will fit your tractor. FML Forestry Mower /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I've wanted one for a quite a while.

Anybody get a ballpark price on one of these "forestry mowers"

I am looking at some 90 to 125HP older tractors. Seems like one can be had for 12 to 15k. I've got 70 acres of woods. Would rather drive around mowing over brush piles and blowdowns then picking them up and chipping them.

Thoughts?

I have an older heavier version of this one
CY72
It will cut most any tree you can get under it and also does a decent job on grass. I'd look into a controlled burn and save yourself a lot of work, wear and tear.

Looking at something more like this

http://www.bushwackertractor.com/Swinging_Hammer_Light.asp

A true forestry mower... not beating the snot out of something that was designed for mowing small saplings. I don't think a rotary cutter would like being driven over and over and over brush piles. The implement above would..
