This is my first post other than asking a few tractor questions. It's been about a year since we started our barn & we're finally at the point where we could start putting roofing & siding up on the north side. I hope you find the barn project interesting. W/o a doubt it's the largest building project I've ever tackled! I'll post some other photos as I gather them up.

This is a view in the hall of the barn showing the bottom of the loft & the brackets I made to transfer the weight of the loft into the 6x6 posts. The barn is 48 ft long x 40 ft wide. The height to the lowest eave is 12 ft with a full 12 ft of clearence under the main loft.

Here's a view inside looking up @ the North west corner.

The brackets on both sides are made from 4x6 pressur etreated posts cut to 12" long with a bevel cut on the bottom to make them blend in. They are gorilla glued to the 6x6 posts, bolted w/2ea 5/8 galv bolts. Additionally, the back sides of each bracket and the mating surface of each post are drilled in 4 places 1" deep to receive a 2" long piece of 3/4" Stainless steel pipe. The pipe provides additional surface to distribute the shear force into the post. I fugure with all this reinforcing the main loft won't go any where when we load it w/hay next spring. Simpson hurricane strapping was used to hold the TJI beams tight to the post durring installation. That's heavy stuff, I cut it & bent all the corners in my vise in order to get it to fit up neatly.
