Wiring question

I want to install a 55 watt rear work light on a BX23. Beneath the seat there are two unused wires that I think I can use. The red w/black stripe wire is hot when the key is on & I think the other is a ground. The attached pic shows the two. the top of the pic is towards the rear and the bottom of the pic is the fuel tank. Does anyone know what these wires are for, and are they fused for the light? I am going to use one 55 watt light so I hope I won't need to upgrade to the high output alternator.

There are actually two "hots" under the seat. One is for the HST temperature sensor that the BX's in the U.S. don't have. It doesn't have much power, but if you hook something up to it, the "HST" idiot light will come on. The other is for auxillary light like you are planning. Jim Becker posted a good set of pics on this topic about a year and a half ago. Attached is a pic of my under seat wiring.

Yes those are the ones for a AUX light and on my BX1800 I believe it is fused at 20A. I run (3) 55 W lights on the stock alternator but am probably pushing it to the max. I ran them last year and had no issues so plan to use them this year if we ever get any snow I need to deal with.... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If the wiring under the seat is not up to par for what you want, your best bet would be to run a hot wire straight from the battery and put in an inline fuse (that is assuming the light itself has an on/off switch). If you are mounting it on the ROPS or some other metal part you could just ground it to the bolt that mounts the light.
