Went in to buy wiper inserts for my Chevrolet Pickup and learned the auto parts store no longer carries "Just" the inserts.

They have 5 different brands/grades of wiperblade with holders... some were $16 each.

My climate is on the dry side and looking for long lasting blades at a reasonable price.

Anyone have a preference?

Is there a superior blade worth the money?

I have tried several brands, & really haven't found that any 1 brand last longer than the other. I find The UV /heat usually kills the rubber ..I usually just buy the cheap ones and replace them about every 1 yr or so

I just bought and replaced my wipers with Bosch Clear Advantage blades from Amazon. They were around $11 each with free Amazon Prime shipping. They are much heavier than the blades they replaced and my wife says they work very well with no streaking at all. I have no idea how long they will last in the Texas summer sun which is similar to yours.

I've found the Michelin Steath Ultra Find a Store | MICHELIN Stealth Ultra to be the best ones I've ever used. Got well over a year, in fact the only reason I changed it was that I didn't want to take a chance in the winter of a blade falling off or tearing. They don't smear, and you don't have to flood the windshield to get a good clean....Mike

I have tries all sorts right up to $30 ones and i find them all the same . I just buy $7.99 ones now and seem to last just as long .

I have found replacing cheap ones more often is more effective than buying the expensive ones and trying to get a lot of time out of them.

Anco from Walmart. They're easy to install and have used the same part numbers for years.

I just replaced all mine before the last snowstorm. This winter wrecked 2 out 3 wiper blades rubber ripped. Its a wear item for sure. Went with Michelin traditional. Flimsy looking but work fine. Do like the Stealths with the all weather covers a lot (that's what was on my Dodge when I bought it used) but the price on those is just about double. Wally World Super Tech's were a buck less than the ones I bought.

I have had good service from these with my Silverado and Suburban. About $12.50 ea. on Amazon. Micro Edge Wiper Blades
I too purchase Bosch wiper blades and find they are in the middle on price along with great quality.

A few things to observe here, I don't run my wipers any faster than needed. Minimum speed. I let rain build up on my windshield before using them at all. What kills wiper blades the fastest in my experience? Running them dry!! I Hate when it's sprinkling out and everyone is running their wiper blades at max speed like maniacs !

I also use good washer fluid! Helps with summer grime and winter ice! Usually rain x summer, and rain X winter de-icer. If you have never tried rain X it is the true deal with the water beading technology. I only use my wipers half as much as I used to no joke!!! The water slides off my windshield without using the wipers at all

Yep, I sold Anco blades in our auto parts store when I was a teenager and I still use them, but from Walmart now.

I also like the RainX washer fluid as the water beads up and blows away if driving at speeds. It depends on how hard it is raining and how fast you are driving but it does reduce the amount of wipers on. Also I can see better in the mist.

Here in Michigan, I like the Goodyear wipers from Costco. The springs are enclosed in a rubber sleeve and don't ice up like the exposed kind do. Also, Costco has them on sale at a 2 for 1 price once a year.

Jinman...I had to buy new beam type wipers for my girlfriend's car, I purchased from Rock Auto online, and 2 pair of the Bosch Clear Advantage cost me $30 with $8 for shipping. That works to about $7.50 per blade, and the local stores charge about 2X that for something comparable. These Bosch wipers are the best I have ever seen for heavy rainfall and winter conditions.

I have bought the expensive ones a few times and like some you, they didn't seem to last any longer. What I did find on the last 3 sets I bought (and had to return) is they changed the configuration on the GM from the "J" old style. The hummer (2004) used the "J", the newer 2010 and now the 2014 use a different pressure lock type "dealy". No big deal, but a second trip to the auto store.:banghead:

I forget what brand but i bought some like that were over $30 with rubber casings over the arms and i took them back off right away . At high speed or running into a headwind they would get wind under them and lift off the glass .

Interesting. Haven't seen it on either of our vehicles. Sure used to get icing a lot with the exposed kind, especially on mild, sloppy days.

When I worked for the Model A shop we got a batch of military surplus wiper blades... Model A Fords and Jeeps used the same blades.

These wipers were 35 years olds and were superior to the imported stuff coming in at the time...

I still have one on one of my cars and the rubber is still soft... and works!

Will have to give RainX a try... was given some "Blue" washer fluid and put it in the Silverado and BMW and it wrecked the washer fluid pumps in both.

Since then I just use plain water... maybe the RainX is washer motor friendly?

When we lived 6 years in Baton Rouge, blades would only last about 6 months. Only ones that would last that long were the German ones.

The only time I ever bought the rubber enclosed ones was in Canada and I had the same problem AND they didn't seem to clean any better than the standard type. Any time it appeared that the regular wipers were freezing up, I just reached out the window and gave them a pop as the came up to clear all the ice.(at least from the drivers side)
