Seems if you are wanting ballast, then why install liquid that is light weight? Rim Guard at 11 lbs/gallon is way heavier than water and water is a little heavier than ww fluid. Rim Guard is non-toxic (actually certified as cattle food), has a freeze point of about 45 below and will not rust. And if you get a leak and your dog drinks it, you are fine.
The only downside is that it is relatively expensive, and much of that is because it is always handled in liquid form so shipping is expensive. It comes to dealers in tank trucks.
On some tractors with strong loaders compared to total weight, the addition of 1000 lbs of rear ballast takes the tractor from awkwardly handling heavy loads to making it comfortable and stable. Much less tire spin not only helps you get the job done, but in the case of MFWD it keeps the front axle from trying to do all the motivating of a tractor into a pile since the rear wheels won't be in the air. Rear axles are well more than twice the size of front axles, as they are design to do most of the pushing and pulling. A properly ballasted tractor has an easier life.
