Window Blinds

I just finished having my house built and looking for some window blinds. Any recommendations? Are the cheaper aluminum blinds good enough or is this something I need to put little more money/effort into? Never really though about blinds until now.

Thanks
Replaced the sliding glass door then installed Hunter Douglas Blinds.Little slaty on price $400 bills..

A little drift here, our new house and shop have "Low E" windows. I'm very impressed. Almost no radiant heat from sunshine in the buildings.

Most, if not all current building codes require a certain U value to be met in window performance, in order to get a construction permit. the only way that U value is attained is with a Low E coating. If the desire is to keep heat out, the coating is on surface 3 of a IG unit. If heat retention is desired, the coating is on surface 2. Basically the low E coating reflects heat back to the direction it came from. ..The energy codes are getting more and more stringent in the next couple years, The only way they will be able to meet the requirements will be to utilize triple pane glass in new construction.

Good stuff. Thanks for the clarity.

I don't have codes here. Low E was used to keep heat out.

Against my judgment, we bought a "manufactured home." The window openings are not square, so the blinds that came with it did not fit properly. Drapes masked that problem.

These jokes about signs reminds me of a Seinfeld episode where the Proctologist's car license plate was shown "A**man". Kramer had a lot of fun with that one!!!

Reminds me of the Proctologist who was known as the "Rear Admiral".

I went with Drapeful for ours after messing around with a bunch of measurements and being unsure what would actually look right. They were helpful with picking stuff that didn’t clash with the walls and trim, and everything fit great when it showed up. We wanted something that blocks light well without making the room feel dark, and their fabric options made that easy. Drapeful made the whole thing less of a guessing game.

My experience is that the cheap ones last as long as the more expensive ones if you are the type who doesn't adjust them constantly. My newest rental unit has Hunter Douglas and they sent some minor repair parts free of charge, knowing they are likely 20 years old and I'm not the original purchaser. My only beef is that some tenants will kink the slats on several windows in a year or two and some others will go years with no damage.

Congrats on the new house! I went with faux wood blinds, they are more durable and stylish than the cheap aluminum ones. Totally worth the extra cost.
