TSC is a joke! Rural King came here 20 years ago when I was in college in 1992 and they have ruled this market. Same with Menards. You will find the price is always way cheaper then TSC on about everything. Chris
it might be a joke to you, but to folks like me don't have a choice so tsc is only store we can go to for generic tractor/farm stuff.

I've seen better prices on Layer pellets at Ace Hardware at times; but it's hit or miss for other stuff. TSC is about 50% clothes anymore.

it has been our only choice for some time... 15 ys ago we had a town and farm store that moved when tsc came in.. and it's been just tsc and feed co-op stores since then. 15ys ago, home depot even carried feed too.. but got out of it. Rural king is ruling now.

We used to have a couple small TISCO stores in a couple small local towns. Both operated by older guy's for years. You could get about anything off the shelf. Even a few sleeve/piston sets for more popular tractors.

Since we now have inventory taxes here on business's, I believe that may have been the reason they are no more. I know I've gotten a few disk parts with dust on them from those places. Can't afford to have stuff setting on the shelf for several years now.

TSC seems to be geared more now for the suburban farmer. In the late 60's & early 70's, they too carried complete OH kits on the shelf. Of course now, machinery is traded in when depreciated out, if not sooner, out on lease.

Two weeks ago, I tried to find a point & condenser set for a small Tecumseh engine there. All I found was air filters & spark plugs. I'd imagine the electronic ignition systems has a big part to do with that. Thank goodness for our "old school" Toro dealer. Give Bob a couple minutes, and 99% of the time, he'll lay it on the counter. Two years ago, I went in to see if he had a new air filter for my 1955 David Bradley Garden tractor, w/5 HP Model 14 B&S. I figured I'd be ordering it. He laid one on the counter in less than a minute, and asked if that'd be all. My kinda' place..!! :)

For me, TSC seems higher priced then Farm and Fleet, Farm and Home, or Rural King. But in my opinion Rural King isn't nearly as good as it was 10 years ago. They seem to be getting away from the farm.

Sometimes I'd depends on the area you are in. We have two rural kings one of them is a half distribution center I think. Both are very large stores. Yet if you are two hours away in Olney, their rural king has 10x the ag parts. I think you could build a planter out of the smaller Olney store.

Back to the oil question.

It doesn't really matter who made it. What matters is what specifications it was made to meet.

Because its a commodity Oil - Oil that is of equal value to a consumer no matter what company produces and markets it, and as such, is available at any discount with little differentiation among brands.

Made by the lowest bidder, and like almost everything manufactured by a low bidder, short cuts are taken in order to meet the low price.

I tend to agree to a point.

Take a store brand oil that is say.. SL rated. and then a name brand like rotella or valvoline that is SL rated.

Looking at the cost, and thinking about the add packs. I'd expect both oils to initially meet the specs.. but perhaps have the lower price oil's add pac run out faster. Same with a Syn oil. I don't expect 4$ a quart supertech or kendal 10w30 syn motor oil to compair in the same league as other larger syn marketers like RP, valv blue or amsoil.

I do expect the lower oil to meet the API ratings on it's cap when you open the bottle however.

For there it is application.

an antique that runs 5 hrs a year in a parade route... pretty much don't matter who's oil you put in. it cannot be worn out in that limtied time. On the flip side.. take a turbo diesel in high heat (coking) situations, and long hard hours daily... 2 radically different applications.. 2 different oils.

. . . sad part is. if you multiply that out by 27.5 ( 55gal ) you get 439$ and some change. I can't even get a 55g drum of generic bulk oil from my petro supplier... thus it's cheaper to buy 2g jugs. and heck. a whole lot easier to handle.. plus i have containters to return used oil in as well...

Same here. Mobil Fleet 15w-40 is about $9/gallon, if you buy a drum.

Sad part for me is, there isn't a RK store within several hundred miles of me. :(

scarry when it is cheaper by the jug than bbl.

i'm going this weekend to see if they have 5g pails and see what they multiply out to.

One other thing. i see on their site they DO sell drums of oil. like 55g drums.

Hmm.. if their pricer pergallon holds and the drum reflects the discounts.. I migth have to take the f350 to town. ;)
