well, i'm getting a couple gallons of it. have a 59 ford diesel mutt-job i'm working on. I have half a mind to send in a sample straight fromthe jug and get an oil report on it... I know it's 15$ which is 95% the cost of the 2g jug. but if it turns out ok... that's a 7$ savings per 2g than walmart... which is pretty big if you have alot of oil changes planned.

I think you are of the right mindset. Just about any oil, even recycled oil is going to be better than what those 1940 and up tractors had to contend with when new.

I don't know that I would use it, but filtered Rotella or Delo or any other top brand might be just fine if some anti-oxidant additive is added back to it. On construction jobs we use flushing contractors with high tech filters in the lube oil flushing for turbines and other high dollar equipment and the flushing companies claim that when they filter the flushing oil it is cleaner than brand new oil. If a name brand company is using old motor oil and re-refining it, adding their proprietary additives to it, it is going to be just as good as refined virgin crude oil. The oil itself doesn't wear out, just gets dirty and any additives might need some refreshing. Used motor oil is going to be much cleaner than virgin crude and the refining process will work just like distilling water, all solids will be left behind.

Just so you know... I went to the RK site, and that oil is on sale here in Ohio too, at least at our local store. I used the "chat" feature to ask a question, and got an instant reply. Posed the question as to who makes their oil, specifically that 15/40 on sale.

Here is 'Dans" reply: It looks like it comes from WARREN UNILUBE, INC. based out of Charlotte, NC

I have heard you mention Warren before SG, but forget who they make oils for.

Looks like I too will be making a road trip..!! Sale is good here through 6/28/2014.

P.S. I also asked if it was virgin oil, or re-refined. He told me he did not have that information. I'd surely think it would be on the label somewhere if it was, wouldn't it..??

If the chain is new to the area, prices are probably artificially low to "train" customers that great value is to be had at RK. Can't help with oil source, but re-refined oil is a very good possibility.

The special price on the two gallon jug is the nationwide sale price right now. From what I have come across the oil is Warren Unilube. I am 40 miles from the corporate headquarters in IL. There is also a line of stores that are called Big R, which supposely is the brother of the guy that owns Rural King.

I just checked WARREN's site REAL fast, and so no reference to re-refined oil, so sent them an inquiry about it. Stay tuned..!!

I would think if it was re-refined it would be listed. I see other oils that are listed as re-refined.

I kinda half guessed warren uni-lube. They bottle oils for MANY house brands. Big outfit. While it may not be mixed to rotella / delo etc.. standards.. it's a bulk oil that should meet basic API requirements for botteling.. and will be more than fine in my ancient tractors. And heck. 15.99 vs 22.67 for 2g... that's an impressive savings.

sad part is. if you multiply that out by 27.5 ( 55gal ) you get 439$ and some change. I can't even get a 55g drum of generic bulk oil from my petro supplier... thus it's cheaper to buy 2g jugs. and heck. a whole lot easier to handle.. plus i have containters to return used oil in as well...

they are killing tractor supply in my area.. and are even undercutting most of the feed co-ops in 2 counties by near 2$ per bag across the board.
