Nothing.

The top link is reversible. One end is Cat1, the other is Cat2. The tongs are Cat2. I can't see any reason for a Pats system on either of my tractors as the tong ends are moveable.

I just keep spacers in the toolbox as I too have implements that are each way.

The trick to an easy hookup is use your wife as a helper.:D....

Oh, and keep your balls lubricated........

Hehe. Nice advice

Interesting though that she suggested you get the Cat 1 hooks and me the Cat 2 :) I guess I can come up with good reasons to go either way. I've only got Cat 1 stuff and really no plans to go with anything Cat 2. I imagine they can easily make me hooks that are Cat 1. At the same time, I don't think it is particularly hard to bush stuff that I have to Cat 2.

If this is what you are going to do, then get the cat 2 and spend the $20 for all the bushings that you will ever need. In the back of my mind, you are going to end up with cat 2 implements down the road.

Now if money was no problem, I would get the Delta Hook system. ;)

Hmm. I think you guys might have convinced me to give this a shot without the Pats.

If someone else has the same model tractor and has hooked up implements with and without the Pat's please weigh in. I'm on a business trip for two weeks and the dealer is willing to let my wife pick up the slide in so that she can send it into Greenwell.

A slide in pair of hooks would then be arriving for me around the time my tractor arrives. So there isn't a better time to do this than now while I am away and my tractor is still at the dealer's.

I have the same model tractor and have hooked up Cat 1 and Cat 2 implements with both the sliding balls and the Pat's. The Pat's system is far easier and quicker in my experience.

My other Cat 1 tractors, with non-sliding lower arms, have the Pat's clamp on but my thought was that the sliding balls on the M7040 would be just fine. After four months without the Pat's it was clear that the Pat's was needed.

You have experience with the Pat's on your other tractor so know the score. The sliding ends on the lower arms are a BIG improvement but still does not compare to the ease of the Pat's system.

When you get your M7040, try to hook up a few attachments before putting the Pat's on. That should convince you.

Let us know your perceptions after giving it a try.

I'm all for saving time but the delta hook is a little rich for me :) You are right - I will go down the path of Cat 2 even though I have no plans to add any more implements to my arsenal. If I ever move to larger farm (almost have to do so to justify my monster of a tractor!) then I expect cat 2 stuff will start showing up.

That Delta Hook system is very nice but not for 800 bucks. plus an additional couple hundred for each additional coupler plate..... I don't have steel hinges on my wallet either......:)

However, it don't look that hard to fabricate.

I was going to suggest that prior to buying the Pat's system....besides, you, like me, have a wife to help out........

I actually have more consternation hitching the hay mower than anything else. The mower is pulled via an auxilliary hitch that fits on the drawbar and artuculates through a pin/ball arrangement similar to the balls on your tongs but the tongue on the mower is VERY heavy and has to line up perfectly to engage, much harder than hooking anything to the 3PH.

Yeah, sometimes I just set on the seat while she puts the pins in:D If I got the Pats system I would just have to take that thing off to use my pull-type shredders. Guess call me old fasion I like the Ole lady system.......But really its not a big deal getting hooked up(without her);)

It's funny how one contemplates the purchase of a new tractor, then when it arrives and you get comfortable with it, it don't seem all that big anymore.

I thought my M9 was big and then I got the 105 and now, neither seem particularly large. Actually, the 105 with the bi-speed turn turns sharper than my old 5030 did.

I think the test of tractor size is when I'm going down the road and I get passed by a jacked up 4x4 and I still have to look 'down' to see what's driving.... being the dirty old man I am, a nice pair of legs always makes a tractor day, a good day......:)

I have to admit that I do feel rather guilty that I over bought by a large margin. A 45 hp tractor would have been perfect but at about the same price as the 45 hp GL, it was hard to pass it up and give my money to the government. I hope it won't seem big once I have it.

Yep. Like your signature picture....

I spread the forks as wide as they will go on the fork attachment and spear 2 rounds plus one on the back. 3 are better than 2 anytime.:D
